One of the European agencies has notified their people from the last referral batch that they will be the first families to travel to China without having to wait for the CCAA letters of invitation (TA’s). Apparently the letters will now be handed to them upon arrival in China, allowing them to travel earlier.
Has anyone else heard anything about this?

interesting to say the least…does that mean that the time from referral to travel would depend on the agencies ability to co-ordinate appointments with the Chinese gov’t and the respective country’s consulate/embassy?

What is the current timeframe from referral to travel approvals? Is it 2 weeks? How does that affect the total time from referral to travel? Anyone?
Thanks!

Here (Canada) they told us that referral to travel is 4 to 6 weeks.

In the USA, it’s taking about 4 weeks to get TA, and then 2 - 6 weeks to travel for NSN referrals. Travel depends on how quickly your agency can get your Consulate appointment scheduled.
I wonder if this will apply to the Waiting Child Program too, or just the NSN program.
Have a great Friday!!

Other info: I just checked the CCAA website, and it is now updated to include the following review information:
“The CCAA has finished the review of the adoption application documents registered with our office before October 31, 2005.”

OOPS! Posted before I skimmed down and saw that the RQ once again was way on top of things!

The question this brings to mind is what happens to the step where they get the update on the child’s status? If I remember correctly, part of the TA process is the CCAA verifying with the orphanage on availability and health status. I know there have been cases where the child was adopted domestically or taken ill between the time their dossier was submitted and they were matched.

Hmmmm, apparently another European country has already been doing this. I’m not 100% sure of the process, but it sounds like there is still an email that takes place. It also sounds like they travel several weeks sooner that the rest of us who are still waiting for TA’s.
I had also wondered the same things HoosierBaby wondered, but then thought that the CCAA can probably just as easily provide a new match once you’re in China as they can before you travel.

I don’t *think* the TA process is to check the availability of the child because our agency does this before calling families with their referral.
And it has always been my understanding that the wait between referral and travel (for US anyway) was our consulate appt…which has nothing to do with the TA. I know the first our our travel group with #1 went 3 1/2 weeks after referral and the rest of us filed in behind them.
So I’m not sure that this will change much for us in the US. That’s just based on what I know…I’m not expert.

waitingmommy - our consulate in Guangzhou will not give out a consulate appt without the TA. So, we wait a month for the TA, and then our agencies get the first available consulate appt as soon as the TA’s arrive.
If the agency can do that, say, a week after referral, then we could conceivably travel three weeks earlier. I’d say that’s a pretty big change for us. If the CCAA implements it for us.

does anyone think the CCAA will begin doing this for everyone? what we’re discussing here is European agency(s). If the CCAA is going to say they are going to change the way the TAs are done (i.e. not sending them formally as they have been) then maybe this is part of the big change/announcement or what-have-you that has been rumoured. ???
personally I think it’s a great idea…lessen the time between referral to travel… very nice. :)

This is very exciting, if true! It’s one thing to wait to be matched, but quite another to know the face of one’s child, and have that child half way around the globe. Also, every week that passes after referral is one more week of development, etc that we miss. At one year, we could miss the first steps! Anyway, I would love to get the referral and run to China. I hope this is a new development that applies to all of us.

I don’t want to lump them all together, but it seems that people from some countries (Canada, Spain and England come to mind) have to wait longer than clients of US agencies just to get their referral in their hands. It seems that could stretch out their referral to travel time (but I don’t know.) So, if anyone gets time shaved off I would hope it was families who were going to have to wait more than me anyway.

I’m with a large Canadian agency, and I know that in the past in larger travel groups there have been a few families who had to pick up their TAs from the CCAA in Beijing because of the complexities of having to deal with processes in different provinces. Typically, with my agency people travel 6-9 weeks after referral, but I know that a good part of this time frame is because of Hague processes that need to be followed here. My agency generally gives us a travel itinerary (and we buy tickets) within about two weeks of referral.
While it would be great if new processes for TA *could* speed things up, I think a good part of the timeline is due to things on the nonChina side of things.

Selfishly, I am hoping the TA rumor would shorten the time from referral to travel if for nothing more than to give me a couple of more weeks leeway in the “171-H redo” game.
