Referrals arrived in Europe
I’m told that referrals arrived in Europe.
Let’s hope we see things start to light up soon in the U.S. and Canada, too.

Congratulations to the happy parents.

Duh, posted this in the wrong thread. Way too excited. You all are the next to know (after my husband)…. we have only the basics of our referral of our second child! She’s eight months old and from Hunan, in orphanage care. Not sure of SWI. We’re racing to our agency in Boston early this afternoon to get more info. Cannot wait!
July 31st, 2006 at 11:17 am
social welfare institute…orphanage…did they tell you where?
July 31st, 2006 at 11:20 am
No, we do not know that yet, hopefully when we go to our agency this afternoon, we will have more information, but I know she is from Jiangxi.

Someone just posted in APC a referral, 7 and a half month old, and I saw her picture, she’s lovely! These things make the wait easier, for sure!

I just called my homestudy agency since it’s been close to 10 weeks for the 171h form, and they are going to try to get it checked on.
However, they are a SMALL office, and they had a flurry of activity going on with the package of China Referrals arriving this morning! :) How exciting for them, their families, and the knowledge that we have referrals coming to post!
(now if we can find out where my 171h form has gotten to and the status…)

i have been sad too (LID Oct 17), but, these referrals are proof of progress. slow or fast, it is progress. these referrals put us closer to ours.i dont think it makes waiting easier, but i am reassured that our turn will come.

My referral is here–haven’t seen pics yet but we’re already in love! LID June 29.
She’s 12 months old and 21 lbs in April!
July 31st, 2006 at 12:02 pm
It seems like the last 2 batches of babies have been more boys than in the past. What do we make of that?
I too am a 11/23 lid and happy for progress but sad we still have no baby. The wait is really getting to my dh even more than it is to me. I would like the site to change so at least we can see if we are out of review. It all seems so far away!
I am happy for others but sad for myself and those with and behind me in the never ending line.

Ok - I just got an “offical email” from my agency - it basically stated everything we already know - but a rep from my agency just visited with the CCAA recently the CCAA has expressed that they are aiming for more speical needs adoptions within China. They are also focusing more on domestic adoption - so I guess this is where all the healthy babies are going. China even wanted agencies to notify people logged in an waiting of the large amount of speical needs children and even boys to consider. This does not sound like things will speed up - this is very disheaterning news. I know we all knew it, but I finally got the e-mail today from my agency.
So what in the world are we supposed to do now?? Consider special needs? With LID of 12/05 - this seems like my only choice.
I am happy for all of you that recieved referrals -
July 31st, 2006 at 12:36 pm
oh - i made a mistake - the special needs is not within China - it is for IA’s

July 31st, 2006 at 12:41 pm
wait 4 hannah…..maybe just explore what kinds of special needs the available children have and see if any are mild enough not to matter to you and your family? what a hard decision….i am sorry…..i must tell you that i know 2 families personally with SN kids and there is NOTHING wrong with them AT ALL…..the one girl was supposedly spina bifida (which sounds so severe)…..turns out it was so low on her spine that she has no effects at all…..100% fine..walked on time, totally continent, smart! i think just having a dr. look over the paperwork thoroughly would be the best course of action if you do switch to SN

July 31st, 2006 at 1:19 pm
I was just looking at a file on my agency’s yahoo group and if the CCAA went through the 13th only, they should only receive 16 referrals this time. I don’t know understand how they are receiving so few referrals if the CCAA is still referring the same amount of children. It is a medium size multi country agency and in the past they were receiving 40+ referrals at a time. This would seem to indicate that China is referring less babies all together….does make us wonder why the CCAA won’t just tell us the truth about the process…I’m in it for the long haul, but would love some real information about now.

Regarding TA’s
My agency spoke to someone from Blas on Thursday who said that we should expect TA’s late this week early next week. They also said hopeful travel the third week in August. My baby will be two months older than referral. But she will be my daughter.
Congrats to all the new mom’s and dad’s can’t wait to see everyones photos.

Talking about SN being quicker. I don’t know about that. We sent our paperwork out on Feb. 10, LID of March 7, and were told by our agency that we should be traveling in April or May, and still no word. Quicker? Not so sure about that. I am starting to wonder if it will ever happen.

I am so happy for the people that have received their referrals!!! I am going crazy not knowing what’s going on. We expect to hear from our agency today and it’s taking all the willpower that I can muster to not call them. Grrrrrrrr!!!!!!!! I can’t do much to take my mind off of it because I am afraid of missing the call. I’ve got my cell and home phone attached to my person at all times. It’s not easy to get around like this either. :) Reading about others helps though! It always has. This site is keeping me from climbing the walls. Okay, I’m already hooked on this site, and I only found it a couple weeks ago. However, I can’t imagine how you people who have been here for months can maintain sanity. It makes me feel better while I’m here to learn as much information as can be known. BUT, it also makes me think about the wait much more often, which is depressing. We adopted our first daughter from China in 1995, and so I was starting to see in the distant future a time when we would have more quiet time and freedom. Therefore, at first, my wife had to drag me into this parenting thing again. But, now that we’re in it, I’m getting even more anxious than her (maybe) to get our daughter. I find myself coming here ever more often as the days go by. With a LID of 10/20/05, I will be permanently logged on long before the wait is over.
At this point, I can’t even imagine making it to see how far next month’s referrals get, much less to how long it will take to get to October LID’s. I need to quit coming here because I believe the time will go more quickly. But, I can’t! We need to start an addiction support group called “RQ Anonymous.”
Sorry for the rant and congratulations to all who have their referral this month.
July 31st, 2006 at 3:11 pm
Hi wait4hannah,
thanks so much for passing on that information. Can you post, in any more detail, your agency’s e-mail to you? (regarding CCAA and especially any comments regarding SN adoptions to those already logged in & choosing NSN adoptions). We in the November group here have been talking about the CCAA’s encouragement of choice of SN perhaps becoming the only IA option, and when that might happen. How was this SN situation phrased?
NOvary - congratulations!!!!! WOO HOOOO! (I swear I could SEE you air-kicking the other night)
Congratulations to all seeing their child’s face for the first time!

wait4Hannah,
For your own peace of mind, try not to jump to “all or nothing†conclusions. Yes, the CCAA is placing more of an emphasis on domestic adoption, and yes, they are attempting to increase the adoption of special needs children. But this doesn’t mean that there won’t be any healthy children available for adoption, it just means that we all may have to wait longer.
I understand that waiting longer than expected is difficult, but this is not the first time in the history of IA from China that they wait has significantly slowed down.
July 31st, 2006 at 6:47 pm
NOvary - I am soooo excited for you and for all the other’s receiving referrals posted here! Skinny babies can be so cute too, but there is just something so adorable about a chubby baby! I love chubby babies & can’t help but admire my friends’ adorable chubby babies!
For those of you considering sn’s the most common ones I see listed are cleft lip/cleft palate & correctable heart problems. Some of the babies receive surgery while in China and are still considered special needs after being repaired. There are some even more minor special needs and of course some more major ones as well. Some of the more minor ones are hernias, lazy eye, birth marks. Some of the more extensive ones are club foot(usually correctable), missing finger/toe/s and other limb differences, though I am not covering everything. If you are considering this route, and your agency does not receive special need lists you can request that the ccaa match you themselves with a waiting child. I am not from the U.S., but I think you typically need to update your homestudy to include what you would consider, and make sure you (and your agency and your social worker) all state very clearly that you want to be put in the ‘Waiting Child Program”. You also state the age and gender you prefer & list the special needs you feel comfortable handling. However probably the least complicated way is to find your child off of an agencies sn list, if your agency gets them, but if your agency doesn’t you can request the ccaa match you themselves. Or some people ask the ccaa match them and look at their agencies lists to see if they find their child there (the one that calls their heart), and wait to see which happens first. If you want to consider going the route of finding your child off of a list you can research for information from the files and friends at
WaitingChildrenChina-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
or if your agency cannot receive lists you could research for information for considering the option of having the ccaa match you with a waiting child from the files and friends at
ccaamatchingsn-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
The process of finding your child off of a list is more well known for how it works then the process for asking the ccaa to match you regarding timelines and documents to send in ect… We at the ccaa matching site are trying to figure out the process better. We know more how to do it correctly from the beginning now document wise, but we have no idea as to the wait yet, and are waiting information from our agencies, for once they know more from the ccaa regarding this process. There is pretty good info in both groups files on various common special needs (and risk of associated conditions) from China and what to expect, as well as how to start the process for how to go about finding a child off of your agencies list (for the waitingchildrenchina site), and for the ccaa matching site there is info for how to ask the ccaa to match you with a waiting child via the archives and in just asking the adopting parents who are there.
You could check with the waiting child china list as to timelines. However for the ccaamatching support site - we have no idea yet how long this will take. There are uncertainties and you could possibly end up waiting just as long, though if it’s true what wait4hannah’s agency says that the ccaa told them, then you would think that ccaa would speed up the matching process for waiting children (especially if it’s true that only one woman has been assigned to matching families with waiting children - you would think a top priority for the ccaa would be assigning her more help as that would mean these waiting children would be in families more quickly - to their benefit). There is also the very serious consideration of if you feel your family can feel confident about raising a child with special needs, or the special needs you would consider. My friends on these support sites say that is very important to spend time researching before making an informed decision that would be in the best interests of the family and the child adopted, as to whether or not to go the sn route.
And for those more comfortable with the nsn route - I totally support you as well - I am just posting this info for those who may be interested in researching the waiting child program. All babies whether nsn or sn should know the love of parents and either route is not better than the other. I strongly support both routes that parents choose and I’m happy for all the family and children who find one another.
By the way, at one of my support sites where there are multiple countries represented, my friend confirmed to me that she was told by someone reliable at her agency that he/she had spoken with someone high up at the ccaa who told them some months ago, that there were some 10,000 special needs files to choose from. RQ, I can give you some more specific information privately that is not to be shared, to confirm the reliability of this source if you like. Let me know how to do this, if you want me to & I will.
Sincerely,
guessingmom :)
