PLEASE, PLEASE more info???? Large China-only? Small multi-country…..throw us a bone…anything!?
July 31st, 2006 at 2:41 pm
PLEASE PLEASE …. I need my TA! My “no information until it’s concrete” agency is making me loose my mind. At this point, with a Guangdong referral, I have no clue how long I’ll be there or when we’d leave. A little difficult on the child preparations (for those sweet ones staying behind like mine) and for careers. My husband is the construction manager for a developer. He is the one that does all the construction, meetings with City planners, officials etc. A little hard on the developer when he doesn’t know when his man will be gone and for how long!ACK! Can you tell I am frustrated! Lord give me peace and a TA!

dunedin — our agency which is small multi-country got new referrals and NSN TA’s for the June referrals today, but in separate packages. The referrals were mailed from the CCAA last Thursday, the TA’s on Friday.

Maliahsmom, AMEN!! How can anyone be productive and useful when there is NO WAY to plan, make appts., or answer the questions of when, and how long! This is really starting to agrivate me!!! Take care!

Thank you for posting this.
July 31st, 2006 at 3:14 pm
How long have you waited for TA? Our agency says about 10 weeks from referral date. Our I171H will expire Dec. 13. Our LID is 7/25.
July 31st, 2006 at 3:24 pm
Ditto Maliahsmom! DH is a college professor and semester starts end of August and he is freaked about the possibility of being gone 3 weeks and unable to arrange for subs etc w/o travel dates. I am slowly loosing it … why can’t agency give us some inkling of when to expect TA’s?!!
July 31st, 2006 at 3:25 pm
thanks for info all…our large china only agency got referrals, but not TA’s…………like i said, i am bummed cuz we have friends in south FL who have same LID w/ diff. agency and have freaking airline tickets already while i sit here with a photo that is already 6 mo. old….ugh!!!!!!!!!!!
July 31st, 2006 at 3:30 pm
Dunedin … WHAT?????!!!!! I am ready to hop in my car, head south and camp out on our agency’s doorstep. On second thought, am ready to hop into a boat and start paddling to China … would probably get there faster. This is just too much.
Coleen - we’ve been waiting 5 weeks now for TA’s and were originally told 2 to 4 weeks (and I have the email from the agency to prove it!) for TA, and no idea how fast a turn around from TA to departure. Before I am eligible for Senior citizen discount, I hope. :( GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
July 31st, 2006 at 3:37 pm
nemomma…our agency told me on the phone that it takes 2-3 weeks to travel from TA….don’t have a clue why my friends got TA on friday and can already leave aug.7—that does not add up to 2-3 weeks
July 31st, 2006 at 3:37 pm
I want my son!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where are those TAs? Our agency which I think was mentioned already (hehehe) said 3-4wks from acceptance sent back. I also have the email to prove that and its now 5 wks. We just got an email from our travel coordinator that was nicely put but still kinda sounded like don’t call us we’ll call you that said….”we are still within the window etc…… we will let you know”
UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
July 31st, 2006 at 3:49 pm
dunedin - Our agency originally told us 2-5 weeks from TA to travel. However, because of the CCAA move they say it will probably now be more like 1-4 weeks, with 2 weeks or less being most likely. This is because the U.S. Consulate appointments remained untaken while the CCAA was moving. This helps to explain why a July 28 TA can travel on Aug. 7.
July 31st, 2006 at 3:50 pm
“back in the day” (2001) you could get a NSN TA in about 7-10 days. My referral was August 23rd, we got our TA around Sept 1-3, and I was scheduled to leave September 11 -
not that that happened. It took until the 16th to get out, but we only lost our sightseeing time, and made it there for adoption day on Sept 20th (only 27 days after referral!)
The agency I am with is small though, and the consulate appointments I think are harder to come by these days.

see, our large agency keeps saying small agencies get the CA’s faster because the larger agencies are trying to book CA’s in groups………
July 31st, 2006 at 4:11 pm
Dunedin & Snowbird - yeah, just got my email and apparently there was a “window” other than the one we were originally told about. Pleeeassse … I wish they would quit insulting us, like we would forget being told 3 to 4 weeks. I’m not rushing to pack. Okay people, post some referral pictures so I can get my mind on to a cheerier subject.
July 31st, 2006 at 4:30 pm
I think there is a “norm” regarding time between referrals/ta’s and ta’s/travel, but that doesn’t mean that’s how it will be.
We were 6 weeks from referral to ta. 2 weeks from ta to travel.
There were some in our group that were 6 weeks from referral to ta. and LESS THAN A WEEK to travel after ta.
Expect the unexpected. :)

I also would like to know why we had to be different, from all the other months in the past. Our 6 - 9 month wait for referral turned to 12 months and our 4 - 6 weeks TA has turned into …… I DON’T KNOW (still waiting)
I want my TA and I would love to know when we can go to China to meet our little ones. Have you looked at the prices of airline tickets for the month of August. Also what kind of delay if any due to the weather. (Fujian Province) South Eastern China.
Congrats to all those receiving their referrals. I also can’t wait to see all the pictures

Maliah’s Mom — we are with the same agency, and the “no information” policy is driving me nutso!!! We were DTC 6/30 still no LID, and still no idea what is going on and for how long!!! I’ve been following your blog, and praying for you though….we were DTC with a friend of yours apparently.
July 31st, 2006 at 5:33 pm
waitingforgrace622 — I’ve done a lot of looking at airlines prices for August. They vary wildly depending on departure date. It seems there are only so many cheap seats per plane, and if you have to book with less than 2 weeks notice you usually pay more (but not always). From Idaho, round trip is about $1750 with less than 2 weeks notice, about $1350 with more than 2 weeks notice. Cathay Pacific has a red-eye flight that leaves San Francisco at 1:30 A.M., and if you have at least two weeks notice you can get tickets for under $1200 round trip. Fortunately, the return flight is not a red-eye, it leaves Hong Kong at 4:20 P.M.

we have always been told that the travel agency gets us good rates because they book us in groups…is this not true?
July 31st, 2006 at 5:56 pm
Did everyone go see novary’s baby???????? I know she was so upset missing last month’s cutoff, but I would say it was well worth the wait………….she has one of the cutest freaking babies I have ever seen!!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats if you are out there!!!

I think Northwest has special rates for international adoption, but I don’t know how they compare to the ones quoted above.
July 31st, 2006 at 5:58 pm
dunedin,
I think that when an agency says that the travel agency gets good rates because they book in groups, they are referring to the in-China travel package (hotels, tours, in-China flights/other transportation). We have the option of booking our international flights through the travel agency that books our agency’s in-China packages, or book the international flights ourselves.
July 31st, 2006 at 6:16 pm
Thanks for the info on flights, we have been looking at all our options for ooohhh about 1 year now… We have four people going to china total, and we all would really like to know when we can book our flight. We are near SFO so that might be our best choice. I do like the idea of a Red Eye. I would like to try and sleep, with the excitment I’m not sure how I will do.
NOvary,
your daughter is so cute, she just like our little one has a lot of hair. And what fun web page you have.
July 31st, 2006 at 6:17 pm
United has special rates for international adoption as well as Northwest. The rates usually end up being about the same as the economy seats, but on Northwest (not sure about United) you get some nice perks like being able to change flights with no penalty (in case your baby gets sick and can’t travel), and another perk is a reasonable one-way fare if you want a separate seat for your baby on the return flight. I’ve also heard that the United adoption special upgrades you to economy-plus seating for extra leg room. By all means check into the adoption specials on United and Northwest before booking — you may save a bunch (especially if traveling on short notice) or at least get some nice perks you wouldn’t get otherwise.

dunedin…I just saw her picture and she is so cute. She reminds me of our daughter’s referral picture. Mya was such a big baby and they had her so bundled up I was worried I wouldn’t be able to carry her. ANyway, Maya is absolutely beautiful and her parents are obviously thrilled.

I, too, just read the email from our agency about TAs being within “the window.” I really have nothing more to say except this really stinks. I wanted to commiserate with my fellow Guangdong gang as we have the extended stay package and, well, I’m just tired of one disappointment after another. I KNOW it will be worth it in the end. But right now I have such a hard time even looking at our daughter’s picture because I want to be with her so badly. It hurts. Referral days are fun, though. Love the adorable pictures out there.

LWB0706 - You mentioned airfare from Idaho…..I am from Idaho too!! Be sure to check the Adoption fares that United has. Huge discount. Of course, everything is expensive at short notice.
Congrats to all of you who received your referrals. That is so exciting. I am living vicariously through all of you and LOVED seeing all the referral photos out there. All the children are SOOOOOO dang cute!
August 1st, 2006 at 1:40 pm
WE JUST GOT OUR TRAVEL E-MAIL. Our agency has requested our consulate appointment for the week of 8/28 and we are expected to head to China on 8/17!!! FINALLY!!!!!!!!
Congrats to all who also got Travel Notices. We are curious as to others who got a TN today as to when you are expected to travel.
August 1st, 2006 at 2:31 pm
Waitingforalex, what agency are you with??? we have not heard anything from our except….we know nothing sorry………i am really at my wits end and can’t take anymore…….I WANT CALEB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 1st, 2006 at 3:50 pm
Snowbird - I know how you feel. This wait has been so hard on so many people. There is nothing anyone case say to make it any better. We are with a large CO China only agency. I have got to believe that when one agency gets them, they all should get them. I know it does not help, but hang in there. It has GOT to be right around the corner. We were told that as long as they came this week, we were estimated to leave on August 17. So, perhaps there wont be any more delay in travel if you get yours in the next couple days.
August 1st, 2006 at 3:55 pm
hmmmm we are with a large china only agency as well…. and all i hear is “sorry”…well phlllllllllllbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt to them
August 1st, 2006 at 4:05 pm
I could not agree with you more. We found this wait to be unbelievably hard. Soon, all of this will be nothing but a memory when we get to pick up our babies
