CCAA Vacation

Half of the CCAA is on vacation this week, the other half will be on vacation next week.
No, this does not come straight from the CCAA as I said facts should on my ratings definitions, but I have this one from enough reliable sources to call it a fact.
We should note that the first agency that put this information out was very clear that this may not cause a delay, but wanted to give a heads up just in case it does.

Well, the diversion didn’t last long! LOL Bummer!
August 15th, 2006 at 1:04 pm
Well, of COURSE the CCAA is on vacation and of COURSE it might cause delays, because, DER PEOPLE, I’m still waiting for TA. I mean, referrals were delayed (and we had all kinds of emotional meltdowns) last month, and so it makes sense that we would have more delays this month and keep me from my girl.
*Sigh*–*getting antinausea tablets ready for another wild ride*
August 15th, 2006 at 1:07 pm
I am also waiting for TA and afraid I may have jinxed everyone. This has been a very LONG journey for me.
Day 62 of TA wait after one year of paperchasing!!
August 15th, 2006 at 1:10 pm
bringhope, I’ve only been waiting 15 days and it feels like an eternity. I can’t imagine what 62 feels like! *Huggies*
August 15th, 2006 at 1:11 pm
Okay, I am about to lose it - with a LID july 22/05 and having heard that these dates have been matched for over 3 weeks now is making me feel very frustrated that we may have to continue to wait to receive our referral.
Then again, I really feel for the people sitting with LID dates for the rest of July since they don’t even know if they will be included and have this wait before finding out.
Can we please refer to the wait as 13 months as we are already past 12 months of waiting and waiting…
August 15th, 2006 at 1:12 pm
Novary, it is no fun especially when you get updated photos and realize how much you are missing. I hope the TA’s come soon.
August 15th, 2006 at 1:17 pm
FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!! It’s always something!!! It’s almost comical at this point (kind of but not really). It’s either a holiday, a shut down, a move, someone is on vacation, the director is out of town, a typhoon, a shortage of babies, a move again, another holiday, another move…… and on and on it goes……..
August 15th, 2006 at 1:18 pm
Ah, bringhope…if you’ll look at my blog, you’ll see that I do indeed know that. I got updated photos yesterday.
I hope all the TAs come soon.
August 15th, 2006 at 1:18 pm
I can only hope that this added vacation is a reward for a job well done with the move, TA’s and matches so that we will see them all soon. Then when they return refreshed and full of rest and energy, they can get serious about working to get this process moving faster. I am having a hard time with an 11/05 lid I fell so badly for those who are still waiting to hear their LID.
August 15th, 2006 at 1:25 pm
Come on, girls… while we (westerners) are frustrated, let us not forget that these are PEOPLE we are talking about. “Communist” people. I find it promising that the CCAA does indeed continue to grow, change, and improve. Before ‘96 it was a much different story for those wanting to adopt. They are doing their jobs, the way they know how. We WILL get our hands on our precious children, all in good time. “Once you choose HOPE, anything is possible.” - Christopher Reeve

I just chose several pieces of candy.
August 15th, 2006 at 1:34 pm
LOL - I love your comment Tresordasie!!!
Like someone said above, the CCAA excuses are almost getting comical - if I don’t choose to look at it that way, I think I’ll go insane :)
August 15th, 2006 at 1:35 pm
I think it was Katydid who had that link to the blog about Chinese vacations from that guy who has lived there for 6 years. So, even if they are taking some vacation time, they are going to have to make most of it up on weekends.
Just trying to look for that silver lining, that positive spin, that bone to throw. . .
:)
August 15th, 2006 at 1:37 pm
RQ-
I noticed on your charts that there were no referrals sent in August 05 — looks like they skipped that month and did not make it up in Sept.
Perhaps they go on vacation every year at this time? That might be why there were no referrals in August last year. Would be interesting to see the referral dates from ‘04 or ‘03 to see if August was included.
August 15th, 2006 at 1:43 pm
No Clementine… the time they usually make up by working on weekends is around the May and October holidays. They get five days off, but they work a weekend either before or after, so the net effect is three days off, but they get five days at one time which makes travelling somewhere possible.
August 15th, 2006 at 1:45 pm
I think you are being misleading when you say “no referrals in August last year”
There were referrals on 7/29 and 9/1. Don’t get caught up in the effect of them coming one day late - you make it sound like there were 8 weeks between referrals when you say it that way.
August 15th, 2006 at 1:45 pm
I agree with hopefulmomma. we are now 2 days past the july 13 cutoff. my lid in 2 days is exactly 13 months. before this next batch gets sent off most of july will be 13 months, and we don’t know yet if the end of july will be included which means it could be 14 for them, which is where it was 2 years ago. I just wonder if all our speculation is the same stuff different day and could of been true of those who were waiting years before us! I just hope it never exceeds what it once was (not including the sars time) Maybe it will hit bottom and come back up? maybe not? just so it doesn’t close I’m grateful we are able to get a daughter.
August 15th, 2006 at 1:46 pm
According to our agency CCAA officials take time off each year during the month of August.
I’m so not happy about this!
LID 7/20/05

THANK YOU RQ for clearing up the “no referrals in Aug05″ I just about choked…I dont expect to see our baby girl until the first week of September but hope they send them before that…
” I also choose candy…just chose candy and ate it ” however my 4 year old is gunna give me heck when he wakes up ! LOL
Amy
LID July 18 for my Ava baby and NEXT !!!!!!!!!!!
August 15th, 2006 at 1:59 pm
My hunch is many of the CCAA staff probably already worked weekends during the move. Could be time off for many hours worked during that time in addition to traditional time off for officials.
August 15th, 2006 at 2:01 pm
RQ -
I am not trying to be misleading.
Looks like there were batches as follows in 2005:
7/20
9/1
10/3
11/10
12/8
So maybe they were on vacation last year too?
More importantly — A lot of the short term projections and calculations are based on there being a batch that corresponds to each month — 12 days in august, 12 days in Sept and so on. For that type of month-by-month projection/calculation it would make a difference if nothing came in August and only one batch in Sept (no “make up” for skipping August).
August 15th, 2006 at 2:03 pm
I know when half my office is out, I get TONS more work done (less interruptions, etc) - perhaps this might apply to the CCAA vacations? Lord, we can only hope.
August 15th, 2006 at 2:10 pm
But they did not “skip” a month.
Here are the dates and the days between referrals for a few months from last year:
6/24 30
7/29 35
9/1 34
10/3 32
11/10 38
Most months there are more than 30 days between referrals. If they keep this up, then eventually there will be a calendar month that no referrals arrive. However, it just means that they come at the beginning of the month instead of the end of the month. It just so happened that last August was that month, with referrals coming 34 days after the previous referrals. If they had done it in 32 days then maybe September would have been the calendar month that no referrals arrived.
Don’t get caught up in calendar months. If they do referrals every 28 to 35 days they are on schedule.
August 15th, 2006 at 2:21 pm
Okey dokey.
Makes sense now.
Thanks.
August 15th, 2006 at 2:45 pm
I don’t think we should freak out about this (although I’m always in favor of candy). Even the move last month only delayed referrals by about a week. It seems like even when the CCAA has vacations where they’re all gone, we still see referrals arrive relatively consistently. I’m betting that I’ll see my daughter’s face by Sept. 1.
August 15th, 2006 at 2:52 pm
I posted the same comment either yesterday or the day before, but the same thing happened last year. We were told that CCAA would be taking vacation and that a delay might occur. It didn’t (at least not anything significant). At that time, I was waiting for a TA – which came 5 weeks after my referral (and within the normal time frame – most people received their TAs the same day I did) and the next batch of referrals came the same day as my TA. It was only 34 days between referral batches and only 34 days from referral to TA – it seemed like forever at the time, though. I think many late July LIDers will be very happy either the last week of August or first week of September. Of course, I am also one of the optimists who believes that the wait time will stabilize at around 12 to 13 months very soon.

You guys got updated pix?????????????? My baby’s medical and pix are from when she was 4 mo. old
Tuesday she will be 10 mo………….I am sure I could not pick her out of a crowd………….I am flying on Sat. and will have her in my greedy little hands next week Wed.
HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 15th, 2006 at 3:18 pm
This is insane if this is indeed true. A move to slow things down and now a vacation!!!! We started paperchasing in January 2005 and received our referral on 7/31. Now another wait!! I think I will lose it! This whole process is so overwhelming to my very controlling personality!
August 15th, 2006 at 3:52 pm
I had to laugh at the comments about the CCAA making excuses. The CCAA isnt making excuses…I would suggest they domt think there is anything they need to excuse themselves for.
Referrals have continued to come out approximately every month as long as I have been on this adventure…every month there is some speculation that something; a holiday, or a move, or vacations, or the director is away, is slowing them down, but every month the referrals arrive at more or less the same time. At some point I think everyone is going to have to accept that staffing has absolutely nothing to do with the pace of the referrals, which also is the CCAA’s stated position on this issue.
August 15th, 2006 at 4:08 pm
Yaay Dunedin!!!! It’s about time, ey?!?
August 15th, 2006 at 4:15 pm
sure as heck is!!!!!!!!!!!
August 15th, 2006 at 4:15 pm
You have a website for following? Or is it private?
August 15th, 2006 at 4:33 pm
Windthrow-
I was not serious when I said the CCAA was making excuses - I said it as a comical way of getting through the stress right now. If you don’t feel that having to wait almost 3 times longer for your child than what was the norm a year ago and not knowing exactly why is something to be not “excused” for, then great - but I am not in that mode right now - just having a bad day. I don’t think anyones post here deserves to be laughed at.
I’m not saying the CCAA needs to be “excused” for anything either - I am just tired of the wait increase as I have a long wait ahead of me - LID 12/05.
August 15th, 2006 at 4:45 pm
wait4hannah -
Good for you, way to stick up for yourself.
“You Go, Girl!!!”
Hope your day is getting better…
there has to be word soon!
August 15th, 2006 at 4:50 pm
nah, no website…i am just soooooooooo lame….sorry :(
August 15th, 2006 at 4:56 pm
my apologies wait4hannah, my intent was not to laugh at you, I definitely chose the wrong words there. You did say that the “CCAA excuses are getting comical” though and I was just trying to make the point that the CCAA isnt spending any time worrying about all the waiting parents and doesnt seem to feel any need to make excuses. I do know how you feel, we went through the neverending wait too and although it is over for this time around I do appreciate how hard it is for everyone still waiting.
My apologies again.
August 15th, 2006 at 5:13 pm
Dunedin, No website? You don’t leave until Saturday. Plenty of time to create a blog. You are probably not sleeping much anyway, so you may as well stay up on night and create one!
August 15th, 2006 at 5:31 pm
seriously don’t think there’s going to be any “delay” in referrals or TA’s. just gut feeling again…
August 15th, 2006 at 5:36 pm
TG- when you met with your agency did they mention a CCAA vacation?
August 15th, 2006 at 5:44 pm
not at all. I was told they were just looking to see if the CCAA was going to send referrals out around the time they have been typically throughout the year or if they were going to send them out near the end-end of this month considering when they were sent and received this last time.
August 15th, 2006 at 5:45 pm
okay did that make any sense? i was posting in a hurry…LOL
August 15th, 2006 at 6:02 pm
i don’t know…never did a blog………….and i worry that i will be so lame that i don’t update it when i am in china………if anyone cares to give me advice/guidance on how to set one up i am sure my friends would appreciate it…..just never gave it any thought….i am not really cutesy or crafty……….more like…”here’s some pix, open attachment kinda email person”

Does anyone know if you can access/update babysites from China? We have a blogspot blog, but I know that we can’t view it from there and posting pics to it remotely is difficult.
Not that we are headed for China anytime soon, or so it appears. LID 10/10…and still dreaming for a referral this year! And in my wildest dreams…travel this year!!

kjdjh - I used blogspot in China and was able to view and post, but I believe it is all dependent on where you stay. So once you know where you will be staying, ask the question again and mention the hotel and province and you’ll get lots of advice.
