80′s TV Shows
In the interest of taking pity on those who are only interested in rumors and speculation, let’s do our gabbing on the comments to this post and keep our rumors and speculation on the Morning Roundup post.
Favorite TV shows? McGyver and Miami Vice and Full House and Knight Rider and The A-Team and Airwolf and The Wonder Years and Happy Days and CHiPs and Doogie Howser and Magnum P.I.
And what was the one with the monkey in the truck?
Oh, and Growing Pains and the Facts of Life and… another one that was along the same lines.. this is gonna bug me.
Update: Family Ties.. that’s the other one.

September 22nd, 2006 at 1:25 pm
Saturday night meant Love Boat & Fantasy Island for me.
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:26 pm
BJ and the Bear.
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:27 pm
Oh! How could I have forgotten? Love Boat usually got on my nerves, but I loved Fantasy Island.
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:28 pm
bcwilliams00 – YES, that’s it.
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:28 pm
I vote for Cheers as best 80′s show. Although for kitsch value (and the 80′s were all about kitsch), how about Three’s Company.
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:29 pm
The one with the monkey in the truck was B.J. and the Bear. You can’t forget Charlie’s Angels and Dynasty ( or was that early 90′s) And in the 80′s I was a soap opera junkie and needed my daily fix of Genersl Hospital
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:30 pm
Growing pains, the A-team, Dallas, Little House on the Prarire, Silver Spoons, Facts of Life
I am a total 80′s girl!!
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:31 pm
Oh and S.W.A.T., Starsky and Hutch
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:32 pm
Early 80′s Love Boat, Fantasy Island and Charlie’s Angels.
Mid 80′s the Greatest American Hero
Throughtout the 80′s LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE!
Later 80′s Cosby Show, Cheers, Family Ties. How could you beat that line up!
Now was Twin Peaks actually started in the 80′s?
Also, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirly, and Three’s Company as well as Mork and Minday.

September 22nd, 2006 at 1:33 pm
Opps
Mork and Mindy!
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:33 pm
LOL hann23, we posted at the same time.
When was Alf? I never liked him.
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:34 pm
Now we’re talking….something I actually can participate in!
How about 3 of my favs….
Soap (1977-1981)
Mork & Mindy (1978-1982)
Crime Story (1986-1987)
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:34 pm
OH! The Fall Guy
I guess ya’ll can tell I was more of the action/adventure type.
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:37 pm
I’ll still watch 16 candles or Breakfast Club when VH1 plays movies.
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:37 pm
Almost forgot about WKRP in Cinci. Favourite episode was when Venus Flytrap taught the kids about molecular biology by using a gangs analogy.
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:38 pm
Lets not forget about MASH
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:39 pm
Oh, and who could forget Moonlighting
We may need to save 80′s movies for a whole ‘nother conversation – LOL
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:40 pm
WKRP! My favorite was Les Nessman explaining his imaginary space for his cubicle.
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:40 pm
I liked Chips. I had the biggest crush on Eric Astrada. Even had a huge poster in my room (kinda embarrasing to admit). Have you seen him lately though? He still looks good!
Oh, and have you seen the commercial with McGyver in it? He didn’t age so gracefully. Eek.
:-)
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:41 pm
When was Cagney and Lacey? I always liked that show and of course Starsky and Hutch.
movie? St Elmo’s Fire
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:42 pm
nicurn…the only reason why i started watch GH was because of Rick Springfield, John Stamos and Jack Wagner…
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:44 pm
Not necessarily my fave, but what about Different Strokes?
Facts of Life and Growing Pains and Family Ties were probably my favorites, but already noted above! ;-)
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:45 pm
Don’t foget Simon & Simon.
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:45 pm
Mash – for sure – late 70′s early 80′s.
Hill Street Blues
L.A. Law
Movie – Breakfast Club for sure!
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:46 pm
Happy Days./…..Um, 70′s or 80′s?!?!??!
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:46 pm
Breakfast Club is my favorite Brat Pack movie for sure!
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:47 pm
OT – RQ – I’m not techie, tell me what “pinging” is (Pinging currently not allowed)
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:48 pm
What are you trying to do Happy Hour? You’ll have to tell me what you were doing when you got the message so I can check into it.
Back to shows… how about Alice (Mel’s Diner)
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:50 pm
OOH!! I Got one!!! LA Law reminded me: St. Elsewhere! (Hospital show)
Night Court?
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:50 pm
“As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.”
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:51 pm
Why can’t they make TV shows like these any more…
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:51 pm
I forgot about Hill Street Blues… remember how controversial it was when they briefly showed that guys behind on non-cable tv?
This idea is fun but extremely embarrassing…
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:52 pm
Gotta say: WKRP in Cincinnati on TV
Movies: Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, 16 Candles
(and this is absolutely true: when I found out that my daughter’s name is “Dong Guo Guo”, I swear I heard “the gong” from 16 Candles”). I literally almost smacked my husband the first (and last) time he called her “The Donger”)
Sorry, I’m giddy, I just got our TA & CA — we’re going to CHINA! On Sunday, November 5th, we’ll have Katie in our arms!
For those interested:

Here is a short lived one… Does anyone remember “Tales of the Golden Monkey?” Indy Jones type of show set in the South Pacific I think. The main guy piloted a Sea-plane and had a one-eyed dog with an eye-patch?
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:54 pm
I hate to admit this, but I was a big Duke’s of Hazzard fan. I loooooooved Luke and Bo Duke and Roscoe P. Coltrain…. “Ah-coo-coo-cooo”! Shameful!
I also was a member of “The Ricker” Fan club…faithful watcher of Silver Spoons that I was!!!
Gosh, how my taste in TV shows and MEN have changed!
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:55 pm
I just laughed out loud at “The Donger” comment (and my workplace ain’t that funny) – American girlfriend!!
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:56 pm
Truly Blessed – The Donger… too funny!
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:56 pm
I have Little House on the Prairie series (starting at season 1) on my NetFlix list right now. I’m amazed (though these were really 70′s-80′s) how many of the shows I’ve actually seen.
DH started watching The Greatest Amercian Hero, but realized that it’s doesn’t have the same appeal as it did in middle school now that he’s in his 30′s.
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:57 pm
STREETS of SAN FRANCISCO!!!!!!! Michael Douglas! HELLO!!!! :-) i was awestruck by him when i was 5 and my mom would turn that show on, she knew i had a mad crush on him… at 5!!!!!!!! :-) he’s still a cutie patootie.. that’s how i spent my naptime, camped out in front of the t.v. watching michael douglas take down the bad guys! oh, and i concur with Silver Spoons… i saw an episode recently and about flipped out at how cheesy the acting was… but he was sooooooooooo stinkin’ cute with those dimples…..
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:57 pm
80′s hearthrobs – Kirk Cameron – I had my wall plastered with his pics – Ricky Schroeder, Ralph Macchico and any guy in the group Duran Duran
Oh, how I wish I could go back.
Fave 80′s movies ‘- Dirty Dancing, Karate Kid, Back to the Future.
Now what about 80′s music ? :)
September 22nd, 2006 at 1:58 pm
OH, another mystery show: Murder She Wrote
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:00 pm
OK, how about teen idols???
I was in love with, at one time or another, Leif Garrett, the Fonz, Donny Osmond (groan), and Parker Stevenson! ha! ha! ha! ha! And that youngest son in the Brady Bunch! What a hoot!!!!
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:01 pm
Although not my favorites, do you remember the Bionic Man and the Bionic Woman. And what about Wonder Woman. She still looks godd after all these years.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:01 pm
Loved Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley. But I think those were more the 70′s???
Definitely in the 80′s was The Cosby Show and my all time favorite Knot’s Landing. Other faves include Facts of Life, Family Ties, CHiPs, Dukes of Hazzard and St. Elsewhere.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:02 pm
Little House on The Praire, The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Falcon Crest (with my mom). Oh and right when I got home from school (until my dad made me change it when he got home) Dance Party USA!
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:02 pm
I have to admit that I had Scott Baio posters all over my room.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:02 pm
I used to love the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries…especially the one at Dracula’s castle
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:02 pm
DadInTheWings Says: Tale s of the GOld Monkey
OMG. I LOVED THAT SHOW. Had a crush on that guy on it. (Steven something???)
Then they took it off the air.
How about Buck Rogers! Remember that one…
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:02 pm
Oh, and Matlock! whoohooo….
by the way, my sisnlaw talked to Kirk Cameron on the phone about a year ago… she flipped out when she answered and it was really him…. she was trying to be professional but when you grow up thinking all you want to do is marry this guy one day (hahaha!) and then there he is on the other line chatting away…. well, he didn’t call to talk to her, but she answered…it was a work thing… anyway…. he’s STILL cute! and she chalks that up as her moment with Kirk! HA
Movies: Weird Science! HILARIOUS still!
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:04 pm
Mmmm… Parker Stevenson… I loved the Hardy Boys. But, I think that was the 70′s. Still, nice memories.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:05 pm
Oh, and The Muppet Show and The Carol Burnett Show… that was a Wed night ritual…
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:06 pm
I LOVED to watch the Bionic Woman and the Bionic Man!
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:08 pm
I liked the Bionic shows, too. I still remember The Bionic Woman ripping the phone book in front of a class of kids, funny how that sticks out more than anything else.
Parker Stevenson reminded me of Shaun Cassidy. Not from a TV show, but nice to think about, anyway.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:08 pm
Loved Muppets & Carol Burnett…the Facts of Life Halloween episode where the girls are convinced Ms. Garrett is a murderer was a hoot, plus, as the token blonde amongst my friends, I always got to play Blair. Amazing Stories was another favorite.
Anyone remember that miniseries “V”? That creeped me the hell out when I was younger! I’m sure if I watched it now, it would be a total cheesefest, but I have these horrible memories from it. *shudders*
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:09 pm
You’re got a pretty sharp memory, RQ, if you can remember who was in which decade! It’s all a “blast from the past” blur for me!
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:09 pm
THE A-TEAM!!!!!!!!
KNIGHT RIDER!!!!!!!!
And MAGNUM P.I. – (swoooooon) tom selleck……. ahhhhh
My dad even called me 2 days ago and said, “Do you know what movie is coming out soon?” I had no clue what in the world he was talking abt and he said, “THE A-TEAM!” They are apparantely remaking the movie.
We went to Universal Studios in the 80′s when I was a kid and they had the VAN that B.A. drove and it was on hydraulics or something so it was light enough you could lift one side of it and look super strong. We have the pics…with the big hair too :)
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:10 pm
When was Laugh In?
My Grandparents watched Hee Haw everytime it came on. Oh how that show annoyed me.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:10 pm
gretchen-
I was actually referred to as Les Nesman last year during a major remodel in our office. I temporarily lost my walls and suddenly I became Les.
God I hope I don’t look like him. Since I’m a her.
Mary aka Les Nesman

September 22nd, 2006 at 2:11 pm
Tresordasie – some things I can kind of remember what grade I was in when I watched it… or rather, how mature I was and what kind of crush I had on the guys, LOL.
Which explains why I have no clue which decade Laugh In happened.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:12 pm
Movies: remember “Caddy Shack”? That was HUGE when I was in High School. I saw part of it again about 5 years ago and wondered what kind of losers my classmates were that we found it so funny.
My 25th HS reunion is tomorrow night. The organizers planned a Pig Roast/Square & Line Dancing/Bonfire BYOB event. Sadly, I am not kidding. Yep, losers. LOL ;)
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:12 pm
Oh, I totally forgot I’ll Fly Away. Great show and started my love of Jeremy London
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:15 pm
Anyone remember Battlestar Galactica? Very Corny…but seems like there was someone cute in it….
Don’t remember the decade though….not good at that.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:17 pm
RumorQueen: You sound like a crack-up and a fun person to hang with! How fun it will be to meet some of you all and see what you look like. I know I have faces in my mind of what you all look like, but somehow I doubt they are “reality”.
You all are the funnest bunch of people I have hung out with in a long time! LOL (maybe I need to get out more)!
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:17 pm
looneytunes32- I’m in a “cube” and jokingly remind my co-workers that they are in my space.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:18 pm
Does anyone remember the Benny Hill Show, that was a pretty sick show for back then, LOL! I loved Magnum PI, facts of life etc. etc. Thanks for bringing me back!!
Kathy
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:18 pm
I just had a 25th wedding anniversary party for my sister. What did we do?? 80s theme party!!
Sailing by Christopher Cross was #1 song.
TV – Dallas, Dynasty, Magnum PI (My favorite)
Movies – Raider of the Lost Ark; Empire Strikes Back
It was great. I showed all my nieces how to do ‘big hair’. I wore a beaded dress from the thrift store that was a lot like one I used to own. There were a lot of side pony tails and leggins were at the party.
AAAHHHHH the memories….
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:21 pm
EmilyB
Why couldn’t you have been on the 25th HS Reunion Committee at MY old school?
An 80′s theme makes perfect sense! We’d have all recognized each other! Not sure if my hair will do the SAUSAGE CURL thing, but I’d be willing to try!
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:23 pm
What about Dallas? It started in 1978 but kept going strong for many years.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:24 pm
My faves were:
Love Sidney (with Tony Randall)
Growing Pains
Who’s The Boss
Remington Steele
Miami Vice
Family Ties
The Hogan Family (formerly Valerie’s Family)
21 Jump Street
Head of the Class
Diff’rent Strokes
Facts of Life
A Different World
The Cosby Show
Hart to Hart
Silver Spoons
Kate & Allie
The Love Boat
Fantasy Island
Moonlighting
Newhart
Quantum Leap
Sqare Pegs
Too Close for Comfort
Three’s Company
The Wonder Years
Yep – I watched WAY too much TV. But mostly I watched MTV – back when they showed music videos.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:24 pm
What really makes me feel old is my middle schooler has an “80′s Day” where they all dress up like that one day during homecoming week. Come on, was it really that long ago?
Yea, I know, it was.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:28 pm
What about Punkie Brewster? CUTE! I like Mork and Mindy myself. My brother”s name is Mark and my name is of course Mendy (spelled differently) so we definitely thought we were famous! LOL
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:28 pm
OH, my favorite KNOTS LANDING~
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:29 pm
this is what is sad… i remember listening to my parents’ music in the car and stating how old and outdated it was… but she assured me , ONE DAY your kids will say the SAME THING to you about your music and t.v… and SURE ENOUGH… they can’t figure out what or who Duran Duran is, and why are we singing about “pouring some sugar one me…” LOL it’s hilarious… and i would live in the 80′s if i could… what we do without XM radio??? :-)
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:29 pm
Ohhh…. Remington Steele. How could I have forgotten him?
And Quantum Leap – very cool show.
Thanks Trace7
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:31 pm
ahhh… remington steele… ha (daydreaming now…)
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:31 pm
I loved Punkie Brewster, My mother always said that I reminded her of Punkie b/c I was a tomboy and never matched my clothes plus I could have cared less what anyone thought of me back in the day, I had FUN, LOL.

I never heard of most of these! But…in a timely way, I had the afternoon off work and found “Thirtysomething” is being reshown. I LOVED that show!
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:33 pm
Punky Brewster’s on some VH1 show for “Lost 80′s kids” BTW, I’m a VH1 wh*re.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:34 pm
What about Saturday morning shows like Land of the Lost? Sleestack, sleestack, run Chucka run!
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:34 pm
How about the Smurfs?
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:34 pm
Remington Steele….mmmmm….he was the BEST James Bond ever!
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:35 pm
RQ,
Remington Steele was a WOMAN!
Loved that show.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:35 pm
Why was there only one girl Smurf? How could that be??
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:35 pm
j, I’m with you on Thirtysomething! watched it religiously at Michigan State!
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:36 pm
OH! Taxi, not my fave, but a lot of people got started there.
Another show that started off a bunch of famous people was Saturday Night Live, back when it was actually funny.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:37 pm
Yes, but HE always SAID he was Remington Steele. What was his “real” name?
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:38 pm
um, Trulyblessed???? Pierce Brosnan was aaaalllllll Man.
Mmmmmm.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:38 pm
You can watch ‘funny’ SNL on VH1..it’s at lunchtime EST
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:39 pm
Loved Land of the Lost. That Dad was a hottie
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:44 pm
RQ – I’m sending you a PM
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:46 pm
Laura was Remington Steele? Sheesh… well, we for sure didn’t watch it for her… the secretary was hilarious… Mildred, right? wow….. talk about 80′s flashbacks! so fun! and better than thinking about what the ccaa is doing today…. will i get jolted from electricity if i say that again?? ccaa… OUCH!
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:46 pm
Make that an email.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:47 pm
Oh, how great to read about shows I forgot, like Land of the Lost and Square Pegs.
WKRP was truly my favorite, and I wanted to name a daughter Bailey for a long time. The Thanksgiving episode someone mentioned above (as God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly) made me laugh so hard my head hurt (they’re hitting the ground like bags of wet cement — oh, the humanity!).
But classic kitsch 80s TV isn’t complete without Bosom Buddies. Maybe I’m biased since my nickname growing up was Buffy (apparently I looked just like the Buffy on Family Affair — you know, the one that OD’d? Charming.). Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari were inspired — and inspired me to go into advertising! Sad that I can’t point to a more literary inspiration for my career choice…
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:49 pm
Loved Growing pains, used to have a crush on Kirk Cameron, DH still won’t let me live that down…and Facts of Life
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:53 pm
I can’t believe there are at least 90 comments before mine and no one has mentioned The HULK!
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:58 pm
Ok, here are a few I dug out ..
Remember BIZARRE?
how about The littlest Hobo?
Was Fraggle Rock 80′s or 90′s? What? I had a little brother I had to share the TV with! :o)
All my other faves have been mentioned.
September 22nd, 2006 at 2:59 pm
How about American Bandstand? I know it was on for awhile through the 60′s,70′s,80′s and 90′s but I remember Madonna and Lenny and Squiggy from Laverne and Shirley being on it.
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:00 pm
“You won’t like me when I’m angry!”…. cult classic right there… The Hulk!
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:01 pm
Remington Steele – How could I forget!??!!??
Mmmmmmmm – the FIRST McDreamy!
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:04 pm
I totally agree that Pierce Brosnan was AAALLLLL Man (yummy, too!), but “Remington Steele” was a woman (the actress was Stephanie Zimbalist). The whole premise of the show was that she called her PI agency R.S., but he came and pretended to be R.S. ’cause men wouldn’t think a gal could handle P.I. work.
BTW, I’ve got to say that Pierce Brosnan went on to be the BEST 007 ever IMHO!
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:06 pm
trulyblessed – *High Five*
Best 007 ever!
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:06 pm
KatinSeattle,
Wow!!!
Remington Steele – I can’t believe I forgot him!! I agree the FIRST McDreamy, DEFINITELY!
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:07 pm
Ok these are all GREAT shows, but nobody has mentioned “Night Court”!
Come on who can forget Bull?
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:08 pm
Emerging from longtime lurkdom to reply here, LOL…
Buck Rogers in the 23rd (I think?) Century–
Buck was my first crush!
Battlestar Galactica–as a kid I dreamed that someday I would have two boys and name them Starbuck and Apollo (thank heaven I grew out of that phase; Apollo is maybe not so bad but Starbuck might not go over too well nowdays…latte jokes and such).
In later 80s, Star Trek the Next Generation
Yes I was (am?) a nerd.
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:09 pm
The original BAttlestar Gallactica was very early 80′s I think. It had two hunkamuffins, Richard Hatch (not the survivor guy) and Dirk Benedict, who was later “face man” on the A-Team.
By your command…
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:11 pm
e~t~c, I’m so glad someone said Chips! Ponch and John! Magnum PI? Has that made the list? Swoon. Tom Selek! I’m a bit distracted with my reading….The kids are having a pillow fight in the next room.
The best movie has to be Sixteen Candles. I’m giving a standing ovation for the Donger comments above. I have the whole movie memorized. “Lake. Big lake.” And I won’t post this whole quite as not to offend, but, “No more yankie — ——. The Donger need food!” He made that movie. Along with Farmer Ted that is! I still roll when I watch it.
Thanks, RQ, for a little comic relief!
MamaC
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:11 pm
Pierce has that same “McDreamy, make you hot all over stare” that the 2nd McDreamy has!
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:11 pm
LOVED Benny Hill. Still say Moonlighting when it was first out was Hilarious. Land of the Lost was so cool but the Sleestacks creeped me out. Bosom Buddies was great. Can’t believe that was Tom Hanks! I remember Venus teaching the class on WKRP (the Pro trons and the New trons). Remember when Happy Days had the spin off Joanie Loves Chacchi? Oh the CHEESE!
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:12 pm
MJJB- How was this for a motto : “Dance your cares away, save worries for another day. Let the music play, Down at Fraggle Rock!” I always felt sorry for the Doozers…building those towers all day, just to have the Fraggles come and eat them.
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:15 pm
I have laughed for the last hour at work, my co-worker I’m sure thinks I am nuts, but oh well. LOL The only one I can think of not listed I liked was Hart to Hart.
Thanks for the laughs!!
Amy
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:19 pm
I loooooved Boomer, Arnold, The Cosby Show and Who’s the Boss (I was fan of Alyssa Milano’s haircuts and copied them all, except the curlls :-)
And : Fawlty Towers (but that’s British)
Trace7: You also did something else but watching TV ? LOL
Pierce Brosnan: I agree
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:21 pm
3Timemom,
I’m so with you!
Battlestar Galactica
Buck Rogers
Star Trek the Next Generation
And while we’re talking Sci-fi what about Flash Gordon? Great movie and music. Queen did the entire sound track. Not aftaid to admit I own a copy of that movie. ;)
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:23 pm
3TimeMom ~ Yeah! Next Gen rules! It’s still on t.v. on the Spike channel at night. Also, have you checked out the new Battlestar series? It’s pretty good! lol
mamac ~ Oh yeah! I’ve got 16 Candles completely memorized too! LOL “Can I borrow your underpants?” hehe
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:24 pm
Wow, Queen did the soundtrack? I didn’t know that! Cool!
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:25 pm
I vote for Cheers and Cosby Show as the best of the 80′s. I was also a big Little House fan. Also, Dallas, was a fave–my mom and I watched it every week together–without my siblings!!!

September 22nd, 2006 at 3:30 pm
belgianmomtobe – I didn’t do much else – that’s for sure. I am a total product of the MTV/slacker generation ;) I did finally get sme motivation in my late 20′s and finished college and then even went and got a Master’s degree. But yeah – my junior high/high school years were spent in front of the boob tube. I think I turned out okay, but I do NOT plan to let our child watch even 1/4 as much TV as I did :) I still watch a lot – but we have TiVo so we do it on “our time” now :)
How could I forget Cheers? Great show.

My memory of Remington Steele is that the girl created him to get more clients, he didn’t really exist it was just the name of the agency because she thought clients would be more likely to use an agency called Remington Steele than whatever her name was. But then Pierce Brosnan showed up one day and became him and then Remington Steele really existed (kind of).
So, Pierce Brosnan played the part of Remington Steele and the woman played the part of the owner of the detective agency who got one upped by this man who walked into her life.
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:42 pm
RQ – as a former Rem Steele addict, I can assure you – you got it right! I was so in love with Pierce Brosnan. I even wrote to him and he wrote me back and sent me a cool pic, signed “God, I’m good” which is what RS always used to say on the show. Stephanie Zimbalist was Laura on there. It’s what made Pierce into a star! Also, one reason I loved that show was that he always solved crimes based on old movie plots, which was cool. Ok, enuf geekiness for me!
(Has anyone mentioned MASH? In college we all had huge parties for the final show!)
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:42 pm

September 22nd, 2006 at 3:58 pm
since I was born in ’76 I grew up in the ’80′s. I LOVED A-team (yes, I was sometimes allowed to watch it and saw all the reruns later) What keeps on puzzling me is that I remember a show and no-one of my friends over here in Hollands seem to know what I talk about. I think it was a British or American TV-series, so maybe you can help. I was about a young guy who had some sort of gift. He could use his eyes to move objects and I believe he was able to walk through walls. I have no idea what the series was about. But I surely remember those eyes. Somehow the name ‘Matthew Star” keeps popping up in my head when I think about this show. Does anyone know what I’m talking about?
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:58 pm
HoosierBaby and Lee,
I agree with you, I have never laughed as hard as I did watching the WKRP Thanksgiving episode.
“As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.â€
It makes me giggle just thinking about it.
I also loved Hart to Hart. I was totally wowed by Jennifer Harts ability to run in high heels, with perfectly feathered hair.
September 22nd, 2006 at 3:58 pm
FAME, i wanna live forever, i wanna learn how to fly HIGH, something something somthing baby remember my name etc. LOL!

September 22nd, 2006 at 4:02 pm
Happy Hour, it’s just letting you know that pinging is turned off. Is there a reason you need to ping the site? If so let me know and I’ll consider turning it on.
September 22nd, 2006 at 4:03 pm
Oh, and my favorite movie is Girls Just Want To Have Fun with Sarah Jessica Parker. I think I saw that movie 21 times! I love to dance!
September 22nd, 2006 at 4:03 pm
Here’s more:
The Gong Show
Hardcastle & Mccormick
The Waltons
Scarecrow & Mrs. King
Another one from the time, thought it was all reruns, was Gilligans Island.
September 22nd, 2006 at 4:05 pm
Loved loved loved Fame! I imagined being in Fame when I was 6, 7 years old in my Jazz-dance class. Hell, I still get the whole ‘what a feeling’-vibe when I’m doing my BodyJam workout at the gym. At this moment we are doing a routine on a song by Bros. All my European friends must remember them, don’t know if they ever made it big in the US. So fellow-Europeans sing with me: When will I, will I be famous. It is such a lame song, but it makes me smile, can’t help it.
September 22nd, 2006 at 4:05 pm
Loved loved loved scarecrow and mrs. king, remember that song Amanda that came out I believe it was even one of the songs on the show, well that song made me cry everytime thinking of those two, LOL, how silly.
September 22nd, 2006 at 4:06 pm
Tiebie I remember Punky Brewster. I think it was aired on ‘vpro’. They also aired a Batman-series. Loved that to. Man, I watched a lot of TV…. Still do! :)
September 22nd, 2006 at 4:08 pm
RQ None of those shows ever made it to our little country. I think our little nation only had 2 Dutch channels at that time….Add 2 Belgian and 3 German channels and that was about all the channel-surfing we could do :)
September 22nd, 2006 at 4:24 pm
RQ – I don’t know what pinging is, so I don’t think I’ll know how to do it!!! Just curious. Maybe I need a techo lesson!
September 22nd, 2006 at 4:40 pm
Yeah, what the heck is pinging?
September 22nd, 2006 at 4:45 pm
PUNKY BREWSTER!!!!!!
Blossom, Fraggle Rock (on HBO), and who could forget Morgan Freeman on THE ELECTRIC COMPANY!!!!
Oh yeah, also 3-2-1 Contact, Mr. Wizard and You Can’t Do That on Television.
Press Your Luck was the best 80′s gameshow – NO WHAMMY’S!!!!
September 22nd, 2006 at 4:45 pm
Hi Lies1976, Now I’m addicted to As The World Turns! I watch it since I was 13, so that is 19 years!
September 22nd, 2006 at 4:48 pm
The theme songs to 21 Jump St., MASH, and Hill St. Blues! Was in Europe from 1975-90, and my sister would send me audio cassettes of the Dynasty episodes. We Yanks would gather round the player to listen. At one point, my sis realized that when the scene changed (i.e., to the Carrington house at night), I wouldn’t be able to tell so she started narrating.
Hann23, I think Twin Peaks started in 90. So weird and wonderful.
Can anyone look at Neil Patrick Harris even now and not think, “Doogie!”?
September 22nd, 2006 at 4:52 pm
All together now:
Faaame! I’m gonna live forever, I’m gonna learn how to fly
High! I feel it coming together, People will see me and cry
Faaame! I’m gonna make it to heaven,
Light up the sky like a flame,
Faaame! I’m gonna live forever, Baby remember my name
Remember, remember…
September 22nd, 2006 at 4:57 pm
Oh yeah, I LOVED Fame. And As The World Turns I watched since I was a kid until just a few years ago…
September 22nd, 2006 at 5:12 pm
First, I think I loved every show mentioned above. As already mentioned, Battlestar Gallactica is back. It’s on Friday nights on Sci-Fi Channel, and it’s awesome. I think their season starts in October. It’s a drama and very well done. Be prepared because Starbuck is now a woman. :o)
One of my favorite college memories in the 80′s was getting together on Sunday nights to watch The Young Ones (I think that’s what it was called.) We’d buy crumpets at a local specialty store and drink tea. It was a British show and came on PBS. Considering I went to school in Tallahassee, FL, it wasn’t known by too many people. We like another show, too. I think it was called Eastenders? Dynasty night was another planned get-together.
I’m not sure what pinging is either, but I think it may have something to do with letting you know when new information is posted. I know I can ping my blog with Technorati for them to show I’ve updated. I’m sure someone knows more than I do and can explain it better.
September 22nd, 2006 at 5:12 pm
And one more thing, Laugh In was in the 60′s. As was another great show, Dark Shadows!

Also Married With Children was great as well and started in the 80′s.

“What You Talking bout Willis”, Different Strokes.
Just The Ten Of Us.
September 22nd, 2006 at 5:44 pm
Dark Shadows! Barnabas Collins and Angelique! What was the name of the dark-haired girl B was in love with?
It was fun to see this kind of scary stuff in the afternoons.
September 22nd, 2006 at 5:59 pm
Obviously too many of us watched too much TV back in the day! My teen now could never name this many shows, as she’s way too busy and doesn’t watch much TV. I was a TV zombie growing up. We always watched Gilligan and Brady Bunch after school. My friends and I could name the Gilligan episodes in order, and recite most of the lines. How sad is that? We TIVO Brady Bunch now and my DH is always amazed that I know every plot detail and most of the lines.
I did recently watch Starsky and Hutch reruns ( and I never missed that show, loved Paul Micheal Glaser) and it seemed so horribly lame! I can’t believe how into it I used to be!!
September 22nd, 2006 at 6:02 pm
banjo – We still say “What you talkin’ ’bout Willis?” all the time in my family because Willis is my maiden name. ; D
Fav movie – Back to the Future
September 22nd, 2006 at 6:19 pm
HoosierBaby- The Young Ones was BRILLIANT! (Neil, Neil orange peel!!) And you were right about East Enders – the cockney folk of Albert Square. Can you beleive that it is still running in the UK. Now – can you remeber (from the Young Ones) what SPG the Hamster’s initials stand for???? Kudos to anyone who remembers this bizzare fact (aside from my sad self of course!!)

Okay, I found a list of them at http://www.i80s.com/80s_tv/80s_television.html but I only saw two (of significance) that I think we missed:
Designing Women
Newhart
And, remember Solid Gold? LOL
September 22nd, 2006 at 9:02 pm
I’m probably jumping into this thread way too late, but back in 1998, my dh and I took a trip to NYC. While in Times Square getting my picture drawn by some guy, Neil Patrick Harris (aka “Doogie”) stopped to watch! I was like, wow, Doogie looked at me! I was a “Doogie” fan back in the day, as my dream was to become an md. This was my only celebrity sighting during the trip!
September 22nd, 2006 at 9:06 pm
Oh, yeah, Solid Gold! That is hilarious, RQ! My parents didn’t really want me to watch that. That was considered “trashy” TV then! Those Solid Gold dancers could move! I can just picture the headbands across the forehead. Also, if Dionne Warwick sang “That’s What Friends Are For” once, she sang it twenty times during the course of that show!
September 22nd, 2006 at 9:29 pm
Good morning all. Oh yes how can we forget the great tv shows from the 80′s. I used to watch BJ and the Bear with Greg Evigan who I met a long long time ago as a girl. I remember being so star struck when I met him and when he talked to me all I could do was look at him lol. That was a great childhood memory.
Oh the great memories
Worriedmom
September 22nd, 2006 at 9:39 pm
What about Bonanza was that an 80′s show? That show drove me crazy my parents would watch it all of the time and I remember my dad doing an impression of Hoss with the big hat and all. Ohhh my now I feel old lol
September 22nd, 2006 at 9:44 pm
Just as follow up to our previous post that turned into 80′s music, here is another link to gobs of 80s music videos http://www.1500videos.com/. Loved the 80s music flashback and can’t wait to read about 80s tv shows.
September 22nd, 2006 at 10:07 pm
My 9 yr old asked me if I’d heard a song out by this new group he was really into. The group was Bon Jovi! When I informed my poor boy that his mom saw them in concert when she was 16, he didn’t believe me! Still doesn’t!
And Greg Evigan was a hottie! I loved the BJ and the Bear show so much I decided I would run away when I turned 16 and become a truckdriver. I was @ 7 or 8 yrs old at the time and it never occured to me I wouldn’t even have my driver’s license yet! LOL.
September 22nd, 2006 at 10:10 pm
You’ve got me, tassiegirl. I have no idea what SPG stood for. I can’t remember if I ever knew. :o) I’m just glad to see there was someone else here who watched them, too.
September 22nd, 2006 at 10:20 pm
We’re probably the only two!!! SPG stood for Special Patrol Group – no idea why!!! I think Vivian the punk was my favourite. I keep waiting for the re-runs but they just don’t seem to happen!

Lies1976 – The show where the guy could move things with his eyes was The Powers of Matthew Star. It was on from 1982-1983. It starred Peter Barton as Matthew Star. Nearly forgot about that show.
September 23rd, 2006 at 3:25 am
The young Ones are great! Neil with his lentals (hope I spelled that right) Vivian with his weird hairdo. Most of those guys are still in comedy. You will not recognize Vivian. He is bald…. :)
September 23rd, 2006 at 7:53 am
Good to see another Young Ones fan here – welcome lies1976. Can’t believe that Vivian has lost that great mohawk of his….
September 23rd, 2006 at 8:03 am
Here’s a clip from the Young Ones for all those who have never had the pleasure!!

September 23rd, 2006 at 9:07 am
Was Barnaby Jones from the 80′s? My husband got me hooked after it went into syndication.
Laugh-In was definitely 60′s.
Gilligans Isle was alos ’60s. I think it was on tHursday nites with Bewitched….it was one of the few shows we were allowed to watch with our parents. We weren’t allowed to watch Laugh-In when it first came on, but we heard about it in school. It did watch it…..but toward the end of its run.
Did anyone mention Rip Tide with Joe Penny….he was a cutie.
September 23rd, 2006 at 9:15 am
I just found this thread, but I can’t believe noone has mentioned ‘That’s Incredible’. Maybe it’s from the 70′s…It warped my entire childhood!! I became terrified that any moment whatsoever, I could explode into ‘spontaneous human combustion’!! LOL!!! And Real People…I can’t remember her name that was on it. I thought it was around the Love Boat, Fantasy Island stage. That was a Saturday night ritual every weekend!! Loved it!!!
September 23rd, 2006 at 9:38 am
Now that you mention it I remember watching Real People, but for the life of me I can’t remember what it was about.
I remember some 100 year old corpse that was still intact being on That’s Incredible. {shudder}
September 23rd, 2006 at 11:24 am
Vivian was absolutely my favorite. Off to watch tassiegirl’s clip for a little flashback.
September 23rd, 2006 at 11:39 am
I never knew it was spelled Vyvyan. Guess I never saw it in print. I loved the clips at YouTube. They have several. It is incredibly silly, but brings back such fond memories. I had also forgotten how much I enjoyed Rick and Neil. Michael was always the straight guy in the gang and kind of the forgotten one. It’s nice to know there are three of us who enjoyed this series!
September 23rd, 2006 at 3:29 pm
This is what I got on Wikipedia about Adrian Edmondson (aka Vyvyan):
]Adrian Edmondson (sometimes credited as Ade Edmondson, born 24 January 1957 in Bradford, West Yorkshire) is an English actor, comedian, director, and writer.
Edmondson is probably best known as the anarchic punk Vyvyan in the cult BBC sitcom The Young Ones (1982–1984) and later, for his role as Eddie Hitler in the BBC sitcom Bottom (1991–1995) which he also co-wrote. In both of these roles he starred alongside comedy partner, Rik Mayall.[
Rik Mayall is Rick in The Young Ones. “Bottom” is must see TV if you like the typical British humor. It’s not PG-rated :)
And another tip for all you UK-comedy-fans: Little Britain. It is F.U.N.N.Y. !
September 23rd, 2006 at 5:35 pm
lies1976- Little Britian is an absolute classic!!! ‘Computer says no.’!!!
hoosierbaby-glad you enjoyed the trip down memory lane!!
September 23rd, 2006 at 6:36 pm
Have just found this great Little Britian montage – it goes for about 10 minutes, but shows some absolutley classic ‘Lou and Andy’ sketches. Enjoy!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEV0-YCjWzI
September 23rd, 2006 at 6:38 pm
OK, here’s another ‘TV trivia’ question for those Little Britian fans out there – does anyone know the famous actor who does the voice overs for the series???
September 23rd, 2006 at 6:43 pm
And I apologise for my early-morning (here in Tassie) dyslexia. BRITAIN would be the correct spelling. Sheesh…
September 23rd, 2006 at 7:23 pm
I meant Barney Miller, not Barnaby Jones. Told my dh about the flying turkeys comments and he nearly fell off his chair laughing, remembering the episode.

September 23rd, 2006 at 10:05 pm
I found some clips from Bottom. I had never seen this show before. Thanks for the heads up, lies1976. I’ll have to check out Little Britain now, tassiegirl.
