RQ - well, you are my favorite thing right now….but one of my favorite songs is from Oliver Twist. I sing it all the time and think of her. Oliver (an orphan) is singing this song as he is dreaming of a mother.
Where is love?
Does it fall from skies above?
Is it underneat the willow tree
That I’ve been dream of?
Where is she?
Who I close my eyes to see?
Will I ever know the sweet “hello”
That’s only meant for me?
Who can say where she may hide?
Must I travel far and wide?
‘Til I am bedside the someone who
I can mean somethin to …
Where…?
Where is love?
Who can say where…she may hide?
Must I travel…far and wide?
‘Til I am beside…the someone who
I can mean…something to…
Where?
Where is love?

Music: about anything “non-commercial” created by Jean-Michel Jarre or Peter Gabriel. In my car right now: a french canadian album (in english ;)) : Think of you (Gregory Charles).
In general: seeing wild animal live (I saw a lot of things around the world and here in Canada). Especially those I call “mes amis” (my friends). They are birds I feed every day. Some eats in my hands. It is the perfect “zen” experience for me.
I am also a “photo freak” (I love “photo safaris”). :)! My best picture ever was taken with an old camera (One I bought for 15$. The one with the “magik cube” as a flash… do you remember that?). I took a picture of a whale “breaching”. No zoom. I was at 10 feet max of It on the ocean. Magical.

Hi all,
“lmr” posted something at the end of the “Thirteen Hours” thread (the one just before this one), and I think it’s one of those must-read posts (actual information from an inside-china perspective, from waiting parents who apparently have direct contact with the matching room). The message is closer to what the CCAA has been telling agencies officially since last May. At any rate, it’s one of those nuggets of hard info that so many of us come to this site hoping to find. Just wanted to point out it was there to those who might have missed it. As for The Sound of Music, whatever happened to Friedrich? To a 14-year-old in the 80s, he was simply delicious.

A babies babbling, Definitely puppy breath, waking up with my husband next to me, my kids crawling in bed to snuggle in the morning, rainy days when you can stay in to read! and I always loved the way the sheets smelled at my Mom’s house. She is gone now and I miss that so!
October 29th, 2006 at 8:22 pm
to loveherso
I have practically worn out my VHS of Oliver watching it so many times in the last 15 years. (That one and Annie. What’s with the orphan movies?) Anyway, I cry every time he sings that song. I expecially love the line “Will I ever know the sweet “hello†That’s only meant for me?”
Here’s a thought that came in church this morning. Every minute, every daty, every week, every month we have waited for our dear ones not only brings us that much closer to them, but is something that no one can ever take from us. We will never go backward in the wait, only forward. We will never get farther away from them, always closer. We are each moment that much closer to holding the babies that are already ours in our hearts.
October 29th, 2006 at 8:22 pm
Okay, so I have a million favorite things that have to do with my daughter’s silly laugh, my son’s smile, my dog’s kisses, my husband’s hugs, but let’s get a little light hearted here for all of those ladies out there who are dying to say it but just won’t………………………..
When you find a great pair of leather shoes on sale in your size.
When your fat jeans are just a little too loose.
When you finally manage to parallel park that beast of a car of yours into the parking spot and there’s still 30 mins left on the meter.
When the mailbox contains more Birthday cards than bills.
When you hold the door open for someone and they say thank-you.
When you dig down in the bottom of your purse to find a quarter and find a $20.00 bill instead.
When the sales clerk gives you an extra 10% off today even though the sale actually ended yesterday.
When the dog actually comes in when you call him.
Well, that took me a few minutes….time to hit “refresh”.

Can I tell you I bet I’ve seen the Sound of Music at least 50 times! I love that song…and the movie. My parents used to take me to the Drive-In to see it. (i’m old) They were huge Julie Andrews fans. That was a lifetime ago. Favorite things of mine include that first smell and sip of morning coffee… reading a great book in a favorite chair… gentle breezes… Friday afternoons… hugs from hubby… feeling the bond of a group of folks deeply in love with children they’ve yet to meet.
I’m praying we see AOA ~~~~~

“Be the Change you want to see in the world.”
My other favorite thing in life is the amazing laughter of my five year old daughter. Her laughter can cheer up any bad day!
Hoping for great news tonight!

cellule, Peter Gabriel is one of my favourite musicians and inspirations. Thanks for mentioning him!
this is one bit of one of his songs that I have posted on a wall in my music room:
‘at my request, you take me in…in that tenderness. i am floating away, no certainty…nothing to rely on, holding still for a moment.
what a moment this is. for a moment of forgetting. a moment of bliss.”

Oh I love this, I keeps saying yes, yes that too is my favorite. I love dogs that play, the laughter of children being silly, my husband, the ocean, warm cookies, fires, the snow that hushes a city, the Christmas lights, Christmas songs, and babies feet. A good laugh with friends, and a nice hug when you need one.
Then I love it when … I get my way.

Oh, yall are good!
*I love the sound of my husband opening the door when he’s home from work.
*Waking up in the middle of the night and going in to lay down beside my children because I can and they’re so warm and snuggly and STILL!
*The smell of a little boys that have been playing outside. *Biting my tongue when I should–when the urge to say what I want to say passes, now that’s a sweet victory.
*Hearing my children say, “I love you”–it’s so sincere and pure.
*And Psalms….They’re so right-on, all the time. There’s one for every mountain top and every valley I’ve ever been on or in.
*And yes, Brielle’s mom, all you amazing, selfless people that inspire me and motivate me every day to be a better person.
Love,

How about the song from “An American Tale” when Fifel is separated from his family?
Somewhere out there, beneath the pale moonlight,
Someone’s thinking of me, and loving me tonight.
Somewhere out there, someone’s saying a prayer
That we’ll find one another, in that big somewhere out there.
And even tho’ I know how very far apart we are,
It helps to think we might be wishing on the same bright star.
And when the night wind starts to sing a lonesome lullaby,
It helps to know we’re sleeping underneath the same big sky.
Somewhere out there, if love can see us through..
I can’t remember the rest of the song right now…can someonw help me out? It will really bother me until I know the rest of it.

This is so sweet. Great idea. Puts everyone in the right frame of mind.
I could probably come up with a list but here are the two that immediately came to mind-
The look I get from dh that lets me know how much I am loved.
And the belly laughs of my 4 year old students. You know the laugh I’m talking about. The one that makes you think they are about to wet their pants. LOVE IT.
October 29th, 2006 at 8:53 pm
Just bought a few bags of treats for the tricksters and I’m dipping already. Ugh. So, chocolate? As I get older, our home with my family. Kids on fair rides. It feels like I’m witnessing a happy snapshot in the life of a family. People that stand up for something they believe in with grace and dignity and make a difference. Great live music with friends. Holiday dinners in my parent’s warm house and the pre-eats touch football game on the street with my growing family. Solving a problem that I wasn’t sure I could solve. Watching our boy. When dreams get fulfilled. (Ok, just one more leeetle bar won’t hurt, will it? They’re soo small.)

Knowing that in a very short time this long wait will be over and I will have another child to love and watch grow. Playing backgammon with my husband has to be up on the top of my list too. We play every single day and we have made up our own rules and it is soooo much fun. Let’s hope that we see some good news on the CCAA site tonight.

Love this thread– it’s inspired me to post for the first time! These are a few of my favorite things:
- when my dogs fall asleep cuddled together (what my husband affectionately refers to as ‘a pile of dogs’)
- that my then three-year-old niece thought her favorite character in the Sound of Music’s name was “Weasel”
- waking up late on a lazy Sunday morning to my sweet husband smiling and saying, “Good morning, Sugar”
- when he follows that up with, “I already made coffee”
- the first morning cold enough to put on a sweater
- my living room when I’ve just changed the furniture around
- jeans that fit perfectly, and when its cold enough to wear them with my favorite pair of boots
- when they play all songs I like at church
- a really good estate sale find
- reading my friends’ posts from China
- when more referrals than expected arrive (hasn’t actually happened since I began obssessively watching referrals, so I just assume it would be a fave :)

The hubby is upset because I left him out of my favorites. What a baby! So, here goes. Things I love about my husband…
The baby soft feeling of his freshly shaved face
The smell of his cologne, no matter what kind he’s wearing
Running my fingers through his hair after it’s been buzzed
Scratching his back while we lay in bed and him scatching mine
The way he pats his stomach and says, “Look at this!” after a good home-cooked meal that I’ve prepared
Watching him cheer or yell as the Steelers win or lose
Sitting beside him at a UK basketball game and cheering on the Cats
Walking hand in hand together and feeling his strong hands
The way he makes me feel so safe when I’m with him
The proud look in his eyes when he talks about our daughter waiting for us in China
Sitting in the stands and watching him coach his middle school basketball team…he really loves those kids
Laying beside him in bed listening to him breathe as he sleeps
Sorry Babe! I’d never intentionally leave you out.

Never written before but seems as good a time as any.
My DH and I are moving to a new house tomorrow and although the complete chaos of moving and utter excitement of maybe receiving our referral in the next day or 2 is making me almost lose my mind, reading about everyone’s favourite things is keeping me going.
My list includes:
My dh’s hearty laugh at the silliest joke on tv
The thought of kissing my daughter good-night on the forehead
Knowing that my oh-so-cute beagle will love her as much as we do
Eating lots of sour cream and onion chips
Knowing that everyday my dh will tell me how much he loves me without ever asking

This is the best most amazing group ever!! I’m pulling for you all and just can’t wait to see those referral announcements!! RQ — you are amazingly wonderful!! I don’t know how I would have gotten through this process without this site! July 25, 2005 LID, Leaving 11/24 to bring home our baby #5, Zoe!! (First adoption but baby number 5!!)
Oh, and what do I love the most — well, I have to say hearing my children laugh, watching them love and most of all, their hugs and kisses!!!
October 29th, 2006 at 9:49 pm
Hello RQ and everyone. This is my first entry. I have been following for a couple of days now. Enjoyed everyones response as we wait for the referral news from CCAA.
Have a question as not sure what some abbreviations mean. What is DTC? I have a LID date of 9-16-05, but not sure what my DTC would be unless it would be the date our dossier was sent to China. Also, what is TA?
Know this is for SN (Special Needs) referrals but not sure what it means. This is terrific that everyone gets together to wait the time out and talk about it. LID 9-16-05.

The first time you hear the magical word, “Mommy”.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:38 pm
The words, “Touchdown Arkansas!”, Calling the Hogs with my husband & son, the sound of a can of coke being opened, holding a child’s hand (probably one of the sweetest sensations here on Earth!), when my dogs sigh, knowing my husband loves me & my son thinks (incredibly) that I am cool. Colin Firth’s not bad, either…
October 29th, 2006 at 11:41 pm
I love autumn & going for long walks in the crisp air, shopping, getting back into a warm bed after I let my dog out in the morning, having movie nights at home with my DH, dark chocolate (the darker & more bitter the better).
Also, if any of you know who Chris Rice is, he has a song that has become my adoption wait theme song. It’s called ‘Smile’ & here are the lyrics:
How far are You?
How close am I?
I know Your words are true when I don’t feel them inside
Still I believe You’ll never leave
So where are You now?
You’re all I have
You’re all I’ve known
Your breath is breathing in my soul
Still I am gasping, aching, asking,
Where are you now?
‘Cause I just want to be with You
I dream about Your promise to return
I just want this waiting to be over
And I wake up hangin’ on Your every word
I just want to be with You
For now my feet are planted here on earth
And it helps to know the Day is getting closer
And it helps to know the day is getting closer
But every minute takes and hour
Every inch feels like a mile
Till I won’t have to imagine
And I finally get to see You smile!
My journey’s here, but my heart is There
So I dream and wait, and keep the faith, while You prepare
Our destiny, till You come back for me
Oh, please make it soon!
October 29th, 2006 at 11:42 pm

Here are the top ones, in no particular order:
Getting ready for Kayli! (Of course: first grandchild!)
My seven children - the four who were born to me and the three who each married one of them.
Having them all home any time they can be here.
Thanksgiving and all the love and laughter of that day.
Old friends.
New friends.
Preparing Christmas gifts for our adopted angels from the Angel Tree, and the fact that my adult children decided a few years ago that we should do that instead of exchanging gifts with each other!
Hot weather, but when it gets cold, just staying home with the fireplace going and those I love with me.
Chili or soup with homemade bread on a cold day.
Sweet iced tea - yes, I’m from the South.
The Christmas Eve service at church.
Almost any kind of music - there are so many things musical that move me to tears!
Knowing that my children grew up to be wonderful people, that they are grounded in their beliefs, and that they care about others.
My siblings and their special families.
My mother, who is in a nursing home in the last stages of Alzheimer’s and is the most precious, loving soul I have ever known.
My stepfather, who helped raise us and has cared for my mother in the most amazing ways in the nine years since her diagnosis.
Last but not least, my husband, who has tolerated all my moodiness and craziness through 36 years of marriage and remains kind, faithful and special!
October 29th, 2006 at 11:44 pm
The quietness of skis gliding over powder
The crack of a bat at the first warm baseball game of the season

It’s not often in my life that I am without words but…here I sit with tears running down my face and a lump in my throat. You guys are amazing!
I’ll add..
the amazing gift of being able to teach for a living
my two sweet cats that have been with me through the darkest days
picking apples in NC
walking on the beach in the winter
home made apple pie
being able to go home to New England
Laying in bed bundled up on a cold night with the window open
holding a sleeping baby
the laughter of my high school students
good friends
Riverdance…Live!
changing leaves of autumn in New England
the sound of bag pipes
ice cold watermelon on a hot day
the inexpressible joy of knowing that I will see my daughter’s face next month.
October 29th, 2006 at 11:54 pm
my daughter’s head in the cradle of my neck when she’s sleeping on my shoulder
my dog licking my face when he wants us out of bed to take him for a walk
the expression on my 3 year old daughter’s face when she is washing her hair
my DH cooking up a gourmet meal for me
my daughter’s face when she is trying to think of a particular word
laughing with my sisters
laughing with my girlfriends
watching my DH and daughter watering plants together, carving a pumpkin tonight

Katri, your post reminded me of a really loving thing my husband did when my daughter lost her first tooth. My daughter Jacqueline lost her first tooth and while she was brushing the rest of them, her tooth fell down the drain. She was so upset, so she wrote the tooth fairy a note that said, “dear tooth fairy, my tooth went down the drain, i really did lose it I promise, so would you please still leave me $5, or $10 or $20?” My husband came home from work (he works nights) and took the entire drain apart under the sink and found Jacki’s tooth and put both the tooth and $20 under her pillow. Needless to say, she believed in the tooth fairy for a very long time! I thought that was such a sweet thing and I wanted to share it with you all.

I love it when after 15 refreshes you press f5 one more time and see the CCAA website changed….then your spinning your tires so fast to get back to RQ and alert everyone because you want to be the first, and you’re never the first, cause RQ’s #1!!!!! I love visualizing this whole internet wait as a made for tv movie!!! I’m Meg Ryan…please!!! And the dudes that are so awesome here are like Mel Gibsons or who ever they want to play……I just love the idea that real life is better than a movie. Who’d ever thought of this crazy script anyway. Real drama. Real life. Real rumors.

OK, I have just started reading through all these wonderful posts, but tonight, after a long weekend alone without my dh and without an update from CCAA, my favorite thing is having 135 beautiful comments to read about people’s favorite things. What a lovely way to end the weekend!
And, as a first time parent-to-be, I know a lot of these lovely things are finally just around the corner for us…
October 30th, 2006 at 12:20 am
- watching our first baby - our dog, run “off leash” in the surf w/my DH running along…pure bliss
- Watching my DH walk through the door after a long day and still (after almost 17 years) see me and SMILE
- Sunday mornings, hang’n w/good coffee, the paper, a nice warm blankie
- my Mom’s wisdom, unconditional love…
- Phone calls from my sister so far away…just to say HI and I love you
- my big brother
- a great bottle of wine w/my bestfriend
- a weekend w/my gals
- never grow tired of walking down the street and my DH reaching for my hand…simply…but so special
- entertaining for family and friends…I love to have our house full of friends/family, conversation, good food, laughter, stories
- Thanksgiving w/my family and extended family…I love Thanksgiving…the food, the family, friends, eating too much, eating too much again…
- I love the Holidays…all of them!
- Christmas…

One more thing to add to my list:
The RQ community. You are an amazing group of people and I am humbled to be a part of you. You have made me laugh and have made me cry and have offered a shoulder and advice when I have needed it. And after reading everyone’s list so far, you have made realize just how truly blessed I am, which is something during this wait that I tend to forget, and for that I offer you all a heartfelt thank you. May God bless you all.
October 30th, 2006 at 12:44 am
Here are a few more favorite things:
- DD’s giggles and laughs (when she tells a “new” joke again and again)
- DH’s cuddle (without DD between us)
- DCat’s bonking against my forehead in the morning
- Watching DH and DD running on the beach together (while I take pictures)
- Warm tropical wind at sunset
- Snuggling in a warm bed when its cold outside
- A job well done
- Amazing red and orange sunsets of home
- Driving along Skyline from work to home
- (Ummmm) Chris Cross’ ‘Sailing’
Making this list, it reminds me of the things that are really important. I think I have what it takes now to complete this wait race. I need to focus on what I have and what I need to change before our next DD comes into our lives. I wish you all a restful and peaceful night and rest-of-wait.
Thanks RQ.

I guess we often as mostly women forget the one important love our lives…ourselves.
Kudos to us all for being strong, insightful, PAITIENT, loving and most of sharing and caring. It is what makes us loveable too.
My DH is the true love of my life and will go join him now in sleep. Love to you all and let’s hope for some referrals.
