Happy Hour- We did our laundry in the tub. And let it dry hanging over the shower curtain rod. Not pretty but.... I was real careful about the items I brought and choose darker colors and patterned shirts that wouldn't show those little smudges (I am a bit of a neat freak), and fabrics that would dry more quickly. I did a lot of layers and everything went together so I could make a lot of combinations. We both took our older socks and undies and then just threw them away before we left China (more room for the good stuff). Lucky you Guangzhou doesn't get very cold so you won't need big coats! :)

Sodergal - where did you do laundry? I really don't need to "Send mine out" I don't want my jeans dried all the way or they don't fit LOL! IS there a place on the Island in Guangzhou to "do your own" I'm going to be there for a long while and don't mind laundry duty too badly

my 2 cents of BTDT for you packers....We went carry on only. Two roll on bags for everything with an empty large duffle stuffed in the bottom of one. We could move through those airports pretty slick and not have to worry about our baggage getting lost or messed with. For our return trip we packed all our dirty clothes and soft things into the duffle and checked that. The carry ons held our boughten "treasures". We did laundry in the hotel. Another thought for husbands with good backs...We brought a back pack baby carrier. We loved not having to struggle with a stroller up stairs and over bumpy roads. Plus our daughter was close and at eye level. She loved it.....Just some food for thought....

TG

Also as BTDT, I totally agree with DragonMom. Take less, less, less! It will be way warmer than the mile high city. You will be also carrying around another 15 - 20 lbs of moving squiggling joy anyway.

Cracked up at "colon blow". SNL line right up there with "it's a floor wax AND a dessert topping".

btw, do you ever listen to They Might Be Giants? Seems like they would be right up your alley.

finally, what's up with the anti-peace sign holiday wreath people? (not that I'm asking you to be their apologist.) as in, "OMG, you're for peace in the world? how could you...?"
;o)

Tg - my only advice as a been-there-done that is, pack what you think you need, then through half of it back in the closet.

let's see if my brain can keep up...lol

the CA is the Consulate Appointment, which can only be requested and made after the Travel Notice/Announcement is received by your agency. for us, we received our referral on 11/3 and our TA on 11/27. So far (and I've been feverishly checking) nothing's posted for us about if we've gotten the CA yet or not...and our agency is hoping to have us leaving around next Thursday. (whoa)

As far as what was in our referral...wasn't much really. we received a main page with her name and where she's from and where she's been at (i.e. orphanage or foster care) along with some basic basic medical info including height and weight. We also received three photos. And lastly just a form page about her personality, what she's able to do, etc.

Of course all of this was from earlier in the year. The photos were from May and the other info from July. Which BTW, the wife has a theory or at least some thoughts on that. Think of...we get her referred to us in Oct/Nov and all the info the CCAA had from the orphanage was from May and July.

As far as packing...well, I've glanced through lots of packing lists and been told many a thing. And we're just going to take what WE think we need and go from there. LOL

hope that kind of helped.

Hi Leia,
Any news on CA's? Thrilled that you may be leaving next week. That would be the best Christmas present ever! Can't wait to follow your China travel adventures!

Watching and listening for any stork activity here in Colorado. With the snow and cold we're having, the stork needs to bring his big, fuzzy parka!

Happy waiting, everyone!
