The big question right now is still rotating around when the next batch will arrive. Will they do a quick batch before CNY or will the next batch come about a week later than normal?
- Three agencies are saying another batch will come before CNY.
- More than a dozen are saying another batch will not arrive until after CNY.
- Most are saying they don’t know.
Historically the CCAA gets a batch out before CNY. But, a two week batch?

It would be great! I don’t know how many days they could do in less than 2 weeks if they only do 16 days in more than a month… But, I would be happy anyway. ;)
February 7th, 2007 at 8:16 am
It would be great to see another batch before the CNY. Keeping fingers crossed.
I never posted, as the last few days have been a whirlwind, but we received a referral last Thursday for our beautiful new daughter who is 7 months old and from Yangxi, Guangdong. We are so happy! Can’t tell you how relaxing it is to have the referral wait over. Good luck everyone!
February 7th, 2007 at 8:25 am
I had a little time on my hands so I went through my agency’s referral history and matched it to CNY dates. In the last 6 years I can only find one instance where they received referrals immediately prior to CNY when CNY was out of sync with typical referral mailings. i.e. If CNY was the end of Jan the did recieve referrals at the end of January but they also received referrals at the end of December so they were “expected” to arrive at the end of January. Only once did I notice a short batch where there were referrals mailed and then shortly there after, right before CNY, they received another batch.
I know it’s not scientific but I just thought I’d throw that in there. I’m being cautiously optimistic at this point that maybe, just maybe they’ll squeak a batch out. After all, even if they only do a few days worth it is a few days closer to my own referral than I would have been had they not!
February 7th, 2007 at 8:36 am
ellen - CNY comes at different times every year - from mid January to very late February. If you want to look at the history you’ll have to research and find out when CNY was every year.
However, for those of us who’ve lived through it, we do know that the CCAA has historically sent out a batch within a few days of leaving for their CNY vacation.
If so many other historical things hadn’t changed recently I might be thinking they would do it this year, too. But with so many other things not being done the same way as past years I’m leaning more towards them not doing it this year.
February 7th, 2007 at 8:40 am
willowflower - my daughter is also 7 months (will be 8 months next week) from Yangxi in Guangdong! That is too cool! What is your agency saying about ETA for travel?….

RQ: I am suspecting that these agencies are not overly accurate in their predictions because you have not even given this an R1 rating. This tells me that it is not likely going to happen. Do the agencies have anything specific to base their claim that referrals may come before CNY (I am not asking you to tell us the specifics, but rather to ask does their logic have any factual basis behind it)? Do you think it makes sense or is it more based on what has happenned historically. If so, I am with you. I wish it would happen, but it just does not seem likely. However, I would really like to be wrong!!
Thanks again for EVERYTHING you do.

check back to 2004…I believe there was a 2 week batch in there
February 7th, 2007 at 9:31 am
I haven’t given it an R rating at all… if I did then the rumor that they will and the rumor that they won’t would probably both be an R3. Multiple conflicting rumors.
February 7th, 2007 at 9:34 am
Thanks RQ!!! I wish it would be true, but….
February 7th, 2007 at 9:56 am
I girl can dream but I am not getting my hopes up for this one. I’ll be over the moon if we get our referral by the 9th of March. It hurts too much to be let down. If I’m wrong it’ll be a wonderful surprise.
February 7th, 2007 at 9:57 am
RQ Thank you for taking the time to address my comment. Rest assured, I am a BTDT so I have been through it. I did research and match up all the CNY dates with the cut off dates on my agency’s table. Some of the referrals sent before CNY in my opinion were expected batches not extra batches. If CNY was the end of January there was a batch at the end of December and one at the end of January. To me we would expect that batch it wouldn’t be a “cleaning off the desks before CNY” batch. The only thing I didn’t do was verify if in fact a batch was sent but our agency had no log-ins for that time period. I wasn’t that ambitious. But looking at the table there didn’t seem to be any large variances. Our agency sends out files to China every week or two pretty consistently.
Hope that adds a bit of credibility to my analysis, which I will admit was a way to pass time and try to will the referrals to come sooner than I think they really will. :)
Keep up the awesome reporting RQ. Here is hoping in a week or so you’ll have some great sources saying that referrals are on their way before CNY.
February 7th, 2007 at 10:07 am
Even with a small batch that sure would help me out. I will take a 7-9 day batch. I am not holding my breath however.
February 7th, 2007 at 10:24 am
Thanks for this little tid-bit. I think I’ll keep my heart set on March and if our referral arrives earlier I’ll be thrilled!

I think my agency was one of those that did not know what to expect. Since CNY was mid-month, my adoption coordinator thought that it was possible to get a small batch before CNY but if not we would certainly be included in the early March batch.

If it happened I would be excited because it would be like a little bonus for those that don’t think they will see something until April on the good case board.

My guess if they did do a tiny batch before CNY the cut off would be 10-19 to 10-20. I think it would be small but either way I know I would be in it and that is a great feeling.
Here is my thought. I cannot imagine CCAA taking a week off with active files on their desk. If just does not seems like the nature of CCAA. It seems like they would want to clean off their desks before taking a week off. I know CCAA follows no rhyme or reason, but it just seems like they would want to clean off their desks before CNY (maybe I am projecting my hope onto CCAA :)

Bad thought: What about all the baby dossiers NOT prepared all over China while they are on vacation (presumably orphanage staff get some holiday too).
Good thought: For good luck in the new year it is time to finish up and mail all those baby dossiers BEFORE the new year creating a glut of files in the matching room and a GINORMOUS March 5th batch, exceeding the good case scenario.

I would love to see another batch before CNY but according to our agency, they don’t expect to see referrals before the 2nd week in March. Keeping fingers crossed just in case though as we could be next!
February 7th, 2007 at 12:31 pm
I am with ellen on this one. I think with CNY in the middle of the month this year it will have no impact on referrals at all.
My guess is that they will return from CNY, do the matching and referrals will go out late in the week of Feb 26 or early in the week of March 5th at the very latest.
February 7th, 2007 at 12:31 pm
BACK in 2004, it was during the SUMMER that the CCAA did a batch on May 31, batch on June 14, batch on July 30….
So TWO WEEKS is possible!
If not, I’m hoping that by mid-March there will be MANY paper-ready baby files!!!!!!
Just read that someone who got a referral in Dec noticed that their baby’s file was prepared/ready in Oct…and apparently sat at the CCAA for two months?!?!
SO much for the “not enough paper ready babies” theory…
February 7th, 2007 at 12:36 pm
Hey, in preparation for CNY people clean out their closets, knock down the cobwebs, sweep out the dust bunnies so why not *hope* CCAA will also be clearing off their desks and mailing one more batch this month before they leave for the holiday?!?!
I believe!!

I have a question to anyone whose has been to China already to get their child. My husband has diabetes and takes insulin twice a day. He has th eat three meals a day and sometimes a snack to keep his blood sugar up. We are 32 and 33 years old and our LID is 10/10/06.
Back to my question. Do you think it would be too hard on him health wise to go to China. We are prepared to have my mother go with me if need be. I’m just worried about my husband getting over there and his sugar going low. Please someone comment and let me know what you think. Thanks, Sissy
February 7th, 2007 at 1:34 pm
While the thought of “clearing off desks” is a good one, in the case of the CCAA, I don’t think that is EVER possible. When you have thousands upon thousands of files, I think they just find a good stopping place.
Not saying that this extra batch won’t happen. Would love it! But I’m doubting it — not a whole lot of faith in the CCAA these days.
February 7th, 2007 at 1:34 pm
violet,
That is so sad that baby waited!!
sissy,
I too would like to know the answers to this, my dh is diabetic as well….not on insulin, but has to eat at certain times……
February 7th, 2007 at 1:37 pm
sissy, I think that’s something for ya’ll to discuss with his doctor and your agency. You could ask in the forum if other insulin dependent diabetics have traveled and how things worked for them, but even that information should just be used as something you have as knowledge when you talk to your husband’s doctor and your agency.
February 7th, 2007 at 1:40 pm
sissy,
I am a type one diabetic on insulin. Although, I have not yet been to China, I am a frequent international traveler. We brought our son home from Russia and I have been there three times. I have lived in Europe and we have a home in Mexico. I would be happy to talk with you about your husband. Please e-mail me at tishamcdonald@comcast.net. For the record, I have never had any problems.

Violet - the orphanage has to send the babies files to the provincial authorities for approval before they go to Beijing. My daughter’s report was prepared in June, I got an August referral and she was in my arms in Sept. I think this is as good as it gets unfortunately.

Hi everyone…
Just wanted to thank you all for your well wishes last weekend when things looked a little bleak for us and the eight other families who were waiting on our referral.
After a gut-wrenching weekend, we were greeted with hopeful news on Monday, that led to speculation that our referrals might get here by the end of this week. Well, I am extremely happy to say that we were all caught off guard when the stork landed yesterday. Our babies are all from Jiangxi and are all beautiful.
We are all so very happy!!! Thanks again for the support…it made it easier to deal with the uncertainty.
Hugs to everyone and hoping that things speed up so everyone can get their babies home soon! :-)

according to a very reliable source… the CCAA tends to act like us americans right before a major holiday…. slackish. and supposively they are much worse than we are…. oy! and also, right after returning to work, it’s still a lot of chitter chatter and not a lot of work. that’s not to say though that it’s possible for a batch to get out before CNY which is what i’m pulling for… and of course our T.A. thrown in for good measure! ;-) good luck everyone!!!
waiting for t.a. now but VERY calm! :-)

I am a Type 2 diabetic (diagnosed at age 27, so it’s not called Type 1) and take 6 insulin injections per day. I have considered using a pump while in China. But I have heard that insulin vials and needles are fine to have with you while traveling. The airlines/governments do require that you keep written documents (ours was used in the paperchase) detailing what you are carrying and that it is medically necessary.
There are many luggage/carry-on options that have built in coolers to store the insulin.
As far as eating-take some glucerna bars-ect. Don’t forget to take lots of glucose tablets/gel for low blood sugar episodes. I would not try to buy “snack food” items in China-for your situation. Take some diabetic snack foods with you…just in case.
Remeber too that the added exercise and stress of your travel (and getting baby!) will also effect his diabetes and require possibly less insulin and more food consumption. So you need to give his Dr all the details. And have Drs. #’s on hand for any questions/emergencies.
Others that have BTDT can help more…this is just what I’m doing to prepare. I’d love to get more info too!
I don’t think he should have to stay home-just get your Dr to give extra vials to store all over in case some get lost/broken. As far as eating-rice is plentiful and would eliminate low blood sugar. He wants to join in the celebration of a new daughter too!
Good luck!

Kristian-Oh, that baby is cute!!!!
As far as referrals, I think hope for the best, expect the worst. Sums up how I feel about the process right now.
February 7th, 2007 at 8:16 pm
Some useful things for traveling with health concerns; have a letter from your hospital/doctor detailing your illness to make it easier to get through security with meds. Have a letter stating step by step what to do in an emergency. Then, have these translated into Chinese (or the language of wherever you are traveling).
Have your DH (or whomever) wear a hip pack with emergency meds and translated emergency letter.
You can also order a new medic alert bracelet in the appropriate language (some extra money but perhaps worth the expense just for peace of mind).
We also always find out where the hospitals are wherever we are going. Any type of “front” work is going to help relieve stress.
I would definitely talk it out with your doctor, but these are some of the things that we do with our daughter that we have found helpful (not diabetic but an endocrine disorder).

We just became DTC yesterday- very excited :)-and I was wondering how long people have been waiting between DTC date and LID. Our agency is saying recently it’s been about 4 weeks for LID but 6 weeks to actually receive our LID. Is this what people have experienced??

Lexiebaby- It seems to be different for everyone. We had ours about 1 week after DTC but I have heard of others waiting a month or even more. I don’t know why this is. Congratulations on being DTC. I hope you get your LID quickly!
February 7th, 2007 at 9:55 pm
i’ll be hoping for some sort of referral group before CNY for those who are next. If it doesn’t happen at least it should be not too long after the holiday time.
hang in there everyone! :)
p.s. we have the honour of getting to be one of the families speaking at our agency’s next orientation this saturday for a group of families getting started in the process. (I’m thinking Autumn will enjoy all the attention…LOL) Should be a fun time. I hope… hehe
February 7th, 2007 at 11:33 pm
Lexiebaby - It also depends on if your agency does the translation before your paperwork goes to China. The agencies that do the translating seem to take a little bit longer for you to have a DTC date once you get them all your paperwork. While others that don’t translate, you get it to them by Wednesday, and you can be DTC that Friday. However, the one’s that don’t do the translating take longer from DTC to LID. And vice-versa. Does that make sense?
February 8th, 2007 at 1:48 am

thank you for the insight. Chestnut- my agency does all the translation so once we had our USCIS approval it took them 3 weeks before we were DTC just hoping for a quick LID when the agency mentioned 4 weeks or so I was not too happy. Of course I realize this is all out of my hands but the long wait is going to be very stressful. Thanks again for insight.

Lexiebaby — although I have no way of knowing for sure, but I can’t imagine that if your paperwork is already translated that it will take an additional 4 weeks. It’s all cyclical too. Wait times between DTC and LID go up and down along with the wait I suppose. When we were DTC, it took 2 weeks to have an LID, (although we didn’t find it out until closer to 8 weeks later). I saw some that took 2 days, literally. I couldn’t believe it! I didn’t even know it could get to China that fast, much less get logged in! Here’s hoping for an amazingly fast LID!! And for an even more amazing speedup in referrals!
