The Rumor Ratings
Let’s talk just a bit about the rumor ratings. Look over in the top right section, see the link that says Rumor Ratings? If you haven’t read them, please take a moment to do so.
Are you back? Good. Now let me reiterate a few things.
If something is an R1 through an R3 then I’m just putting it out there so you can decide what to do with it. I’m not saying it is true. Multiple conflicting rumors can all have an R3 at the same time. An R3 just means it’s coming from more than one place and has a bit of clout behind it, it does not mean I’m saying “this is going to happen”.
I do not consider my reputation on the line with a rumor until I give it an R4 or an R5. I strive to be very close to 100% with an R5, and at least 80% or 90% correct with an R4.
If I give something an R3 then please do not go off reporting that I’ve said something is going to happen.

Thanks, RQ. It frustrates me to see you criticized and scrutinized over something you do out of the goodness of your heart.
Thank you!!!!

We definitely take this stuff very seriously. Even when an R3 falls flat on its face I have a hard time and feel like I have let folks down. We only have so much to work with and there are no guarantees. it’s like walking a tightrope with a net and you take your lumps with your victories.
The rating system works, but even I get my hopes up when I know I shouldn’t.
If it was not for this site, what would I know about IA
I am in line
I have been here a while
I will get my child some day
I hope
I think it will be next month
Yeah right!!!
I prefer this way even though it is hard to take sometimes.

I saw a post on the APC saying that you had said XYZ about something (cut off dates) and felt sorry for the people who read APC that don’t know about the R-ratings. Even with rumors at a 4 rating, it isn’t fact, until it’s a fact!! I remember an old song about “The Rumor Mill” it was some gospel band who sang it…the Gaithers or something. I think about that song when I get all hung up on a particular rumor. Things will happen as they will.

What is APC?

I love this site. It has helped us during the wait. I have always appreciated the fact that RQ will share the things she hears. I assume everthing is a rumor until it is a fact. I actually sort of like the roller coaster ride of rumors…just wish there were more ups than downs. The rumor ratings are very clear and helpful.

Your site is an amazing gift! I for one think you do an amazing job of figuring all of this out for us. I can’t imagine going through the wait without this site to check everyday. I think the R systems works great. Thank you for all your hard work!

OK.. I have been mulling this all over and here is my conspiracy theory. I believe that someone or “someones” are working against the RQ Kingdom. I believe that they are throwing positive crap out that they know we all want to hear in hopes that when the good rumors don’t come true, we all turn against one another and the Queen herself!
This way the entities can always turn around and say .. “we told you not to goto that site.”
Putting positive rumors out there early in the month also ensures we waiting parents won’t drop out of the program just yet.. just in case the good rumor comes true.. this way certain organizations can continue to make money off of waiting parents who are already at their wits end.
Just a theory from a woman who still believes Elvis is alive and living on an island with JFK Jr.
Well, whatever the case may be, I could not imagine an adoption journey without this site, or this group of people. I don’t care if it’s an R-1 or an R-5.. let me hear it.. it’s more than any one else in this journey cares to share.
We went in thinking a year, if it weren’t for this board I’d think I was going over the China next month instead of next year.. hahaha
I can’t even imagine the pain that all of you who went in thinking 6 months have gone through..

I rarely go to APC, but I went over today for a few minutes and saw posts representing rumors from this site incorrectly. I wondered what posts they were reading because I did not pick up the same info that was being “regurgitated” on APC. Be careful out there folks, misinformation and misrepresentation is counter productive.
Thanks RQ for sharing the info.

I think the rating system is clear, and really appreciate you giving us what ever info. you have. Without you most of us would hear nothing. And something is always better than nothing. Can’t please every one all the time. Thanks for all your hard work!

Thanks RQ..for explaining the ratings, for keeping this site going when you were off to to China meeting your daughter, for choosing the moderators, and most of all for keeping this site going. I hope you feel appreciated, because you are!!!

APC: Adoptive Parents China. It’s a Yahoo e-Group.

Personally, I like your rumor-rating system, RQ - and I appreciate the care you take to assign ratings to rumors. I would know NOTHING if it were not for this site. DH and I are much more aware, prepared and comforted since hanging here.
Initially, I spent some time on other sites. I don’t bother at all anymore. People here are much more fun and helpful. I saw some not-so-nice (and untrue) things posted about you and your site elsewhere. I have chalked it up to the fact that you are VERY popular and have loyal intelligent subjects. That combo will always threaten a few.

Yeah, I saw the posts on APC as well. In the end I think it just makes the posters look like they have reading comprehension problems - more of a statement about them than me.
For anyone wanting to know what APC is, it’s in the FAQ.
