We are a little bit worried. The CCAA’s website says “The CCAA has finished the placement of children for the families whose adoption application documents were registered with our office before December 14, 2005.”
It say’s “before December 14″. Hopefully it was typed in wrong and they mean “on or before December 14, 2005″.

We don’t have a blog so I’ll just make this happy announcement here. We have a daughter!
Her name is Xiao Sheng Ge and she was born October 22, 2005. She is from Hunan Province, Zhuzhou SWI.
When we went LID (12/14/05) I was 45 and DH was 48, we asked for under two years, but we knew we were on the cusp. I give this information here just for all you olders out there who are wondering, like I was, what to expect. We made the adjustment to the fact that we have a 2+ year old in about 5 minutes, in fact, I think we are rather pleased that our wishes were ignored. The extended wait had always bothered me because I thought it could mean one more year of distance (in years) from our second child, when we are already older parents. And our little girl was born just when we were putting in our adoption application. I think it is all pretty providential. I’ll be reading thoroughlyll the posts in the Forum about adoption of children over 18 months.

DoctorH: Just to help put you at eaze my daugher was 22 months old on Gotcha Day (her DOB is 3-18-05) and I have to tell you bonding and transition was NOT a problem. She is the joy of my life and family. I loved having a toddler and communication was not an issue in China. She did not have much language in Chinese so her transition to English was pretty easy. Her comprehension was INCREDIBLE even in China. I was amazed. She is 33 months old now and doing GREAT at school and home. Hope this helps. If you want to email me just let me know.

My friend received her referral, little girl 6 months. Her agency said families in their 30’s received babies, and older
parents receive toddlers. Her agency said this is pretty much what would be expected.
Having adopted a 2 year 3 month old dd, and a 4 1/2 year
old ds I can tell you they are the perfect ages for our family, and we have absolutely no problems whatsoever.
We chose our children and did not receive referrals though.
You will be referred the perfect child for your family. Now go and do some big shopping.

We now have six children, and all of them are boys except five!!!!!!
Please allow me to introduce our newest darling daughter. Her name is Fu Ni Yang, and she currently resides at Fuzhou SWI in Jiangxi Province. She’s 13.5 months old.
We are so very thrilled and cannot wait to meet her. Unfortunately, that won’t happen until after the Chinese New Year!
If I might just clarify a little something about parental age and the age of the child referred. There really does not seem to be much rhyme or reason behind it all. I am 48 and my husband is 53 (He’ll be a month shy of 54 when we travel to bring our daughter home). We’ve been over 40 for each of our 4 adoptions (first adoption in 2001) and we’ve always been referred babies about a year of age.
In our travel group, we are the oldest (I think – with the exception of one other father), yet our daughter falls about mid way between the ages of the other babies referred.
Also, my sister and her husband, when they were 50 and 55 were referred a 23 month old, and then when they were 52 and 57 were referred a 17 month old. Now, the rules have changed, and they wouldn’t qualify now at all, but those adoptions took place in 2002 and 2004.
You really cannot predict the age of the child you will be referred. Perhaps you might wish to be open to any child between 6 months and 2.5 years (or perhaps even 3 as one of the members of RQ’s site was a few months ago, despite having asked for “As Young As Possible”).

I agree with china4…I don’t think age of the parents necessarily dictates age of the baby at referral within a group. My DH and I were definately NOT the youngest in our group, but our DD was the youngest in the group. I actually expected to get one of the older babies….we were thrilled when we were referred our daughter at 7.5 months..our five year old was 10 months at time of referral…

Our agency told us that the CCAA as of May07 will be enforcing the age appropriate rules. They have always been in place, but they were never adhered to. About 5 years ago people on the forum I belong to were referred
children that did not reflect the CCAA age requirements. A woman 55 received an infant and a woman in her late 30’s received a 24 month old. I realize back then it was not necessarily in any specific order. My friend is with a large
agency, and in her group families in their 30’s, early 40’s
received infants, and then older parents received toddlers
ranging from 13months – 2.5 years. Now we all know that
the CCAA may or may not even keep to these guidelines considering they have been referring out of LID order.
Who knows?
She was also told, they refer the child at the age you are
at time of referral not LID. Has anyone heard differently.
I thought it was LID. Maybe she has it wrong.
