Another Pictorial View
First let’s look at the poll on the left (closed March 11, 2006) as a historical marker. We can look at charts and see the same thing, but sometimes seeing it visually helps you get the idea that the reality is a pretty big bubble around the midpoint.
And next, let’s take a look at the poll on the right (below), to look towards the future. Again, we don’t really learn anything from this that we can’t learn from a spreadsheet, but I’ve discovered that lots of people can understand this better than a spreadsheet. So, I’m putting it out there.
On another note, I’m home with a sick GlitterGirl today. If she sleeps much then I’ll work on the When post and will hopefully get it posted sometime today, but if she stays awake then it will have to wait.

I think I might know how you feel today RQ, since I am also juggling work at home with my sick 6 year old son. He was off last week with a flu bug and on Sunday he came down with the sickness bug. I thought I would get him back to school today because he hadn’t been sick for 48 hours but then he promptly threw up all over the carpet! I guess he wan’t ready! So I hope Glittergirl is soon recovered as well…

I’ve been following your blog for about six months and I’ll admit the polls still confuse me. I’m guessing these are LIDs, but what year and what is the difference between the two charts?

RQ can’t wait to see your when post. Thanks for all you do. I hope GG gets well soon. Lisa

Geekrev,
Each block of color on the chart represents a batch of referrals. The poll on the left was taken way back in March 2006, and the poll on the right was taken much more recently, in the last couple of months. I think she’s just showing that the numbers of people LID change, depending on when the poll is taken.

I just noticed you added the CCAA Box. Thanks!
I know you sometimes have a “Notes On This Batch” post. Do you have any notes on this batch?:)
I hope GG feels better soon (and TT doesn’t catch it)!

RQ…I hope GG is feeling better soon.
I have a question on your analysis. Have you ever compared the poll LIDs with the actual referrals to see if the percentages hold up over time? Put another way, is there any way for you to determine if the votes consistently represent “X” percent of actual referrals.
By the way…I’m still trying to find your link that tells me the exact moment when we receive our referral :)
Take care and good luck with GG.

I just wanted to say that I really appreciate the great bunch of people we have posting to this site. I’ve been bashed a couple of times by people who don’t like the way I think, but they are soooo outnumbered by the kind, generous, hopeful people who are devoting everything they are to building their families through adoption.
For most of us, the road that brought us here held a lot of heartache, whether it be fertility issues, miscarriages, the untimely death of a spouse, etc. But it’s very obvious that those hardships have created a pretty incredible group of people. I’m proud to be among you.

Love the box, oh yea, love the box. Bella’s mom, have to agree, we’ve got something special going on here. Just an observation, I note the most recent poll shows we have a bit over 4000 votes and the RQ membership stands at a bit over 4900. Taking into account that some members were unable to vote because their LID’s go beyond the poll dates, looks to me like we have all hands on deck for this poll. Keeping in mind I don’t know where the membership stood for previous polls.

RQ - This colored table is an excellent visual! Thanks for taking the time to explain it again to all of us.
I hope Glitter Girl feels better soon.

geekrev,
The poll on the left has dates that are shaded indicating that they were together in a referral batch, I believe, which continues into the chart on the right and then stops at December 27, since we have received no referrals on LID past that date yet. This gives you an idea of how many LID per day there were as well as how many LID per referral there were. If the numbers are correct, the last batch of referrals, then, was huge compared to the batch that went from LID October 25 to October 26 (the first one shown shaded together).
You can also see that, if everyone is participating in the poll, there are few LID in February 06 but there are a lot in January and March of 06.

Can anyone explain why some people mark their LID on the polls as a day that is a Saturday or Sunday? Are they perhaps confusing their DTC and their LID, or does the CCAA really give LID’s on the weekends?
I’ve always wondered about that.

I will answer this one since I have asked it myself so many times. There are some people who have LID’s on weekends, not many but a few.
However, I was noticing that there are people logged in the first week of February 06 - which was Chinese New Year, that really has be stumped. According to my agency CCAA was closed for the week. So maybe these are mistakes?

mom222b:
You’re right. Sometimes CCAA does give weekend LID’s. My understanding is that if someone needs a day off, they work the weekend to make up for the lost time (as opposed to having benefit time). So, LID’s will appear on the weekends from time to time, but not as many as on other days.
The LID’s during CNY is another issue. Maybe some workers didn’t take the time off, so even though CCAA was technically closed, some opted to work over time, or took time off during some other period? I’m not sure how to adequately address that one. But, if it was simply a matter of one or two people opting to work that week for some reason, it would explain why there are so few. Another reason I suppose could be individuals who are making a reasonable guess at their LID. I know that not everyone is told exactly what their LID is, especially those in other countries where their governments, as opposed to an agency, handles all their paperwork. They may be using their DTC date, or based on their DTC date and the usual wait time between DTC and LID, making an assumption on when they would most likely have been LID.

I hadn’t considered that some people do not know their LIDs…interesting.
CNY is such a big holiday in China so the idea of a few people working during this time is harder to understand. You would think if an employee was going to work during this time they would have logged in more than one dossier. I need the shrugging smiley :)
