Moving to an R3
At this point I’m giving it an R3 that the cut off is January 4, and an R1 that it is January 5.
I have not heard that anything has been mailed yet.
It’s Leap Day, doesn’t that make it a special day?

Thanks for the update RQ. I was just wondering, what- if any info- made you put jan. 5th as an R1?
LID 1/5 :)
Happy Leap Day!

Hi RQ. Thank you so much - any word from American agencies to go with the European and Canadian reports?

Good to hear some news! PLEASE, PLEASE, has anyone heard anything about this supposed meeting at CCAA after the Chinese New Year? My caseworker told me this was going to happen. With the upcoming Olympics and continued slow down, I just wondered what implications may come. Does anyone else remember hearing of this meeting?
February 29th, 2008 at 9:33 am
Okay, after reading the article yesterday about China possibly doing away with the one child policy and counting the days between Jan 4th 06 and Feb 07 (my LID), I went home and opted for the Vodka collins… the hot cup of tea just wasn’t cutting it ! :) And today I feel much better.
For some reason, everytime something happens that brings me down or makes me start to lose hope, hope seems to find me. I just get this feeling in my heart that it’s meant to be, that SOMEDAY I’ll be next on the list for a referral. So I’m going to hold on to that.
I’ve also decided that I’ve had enough of winter and it needs to leave. I sent my daughter to school today wearing pink capris and a white eyelit shirt (underneath her snowsuit, of course.) Tonight for supper, we’re dragging the grill out of the garage (I think I can get around the snow bankings) and we’re having hamburgers, macaroni salad and corn on the cob (it costs a lot this time of year but you CAN get it).
Happy Leap-Day to all!!
February 29th, 2008 at 9:39 am
Trying to think positive.
1st off I want to see yippee to everyone who gets a referral in this round. Happy travels to everyone.
1. We can all retire our 2005 calendars. Yippee
2. 8 days is ok. Not fantastic but it’s better than the 2 day batch like last April. And better than the 3 day batch like last Oct. 07′.
I too am curious about the CCAA meeting. Anyone.
RQ, thank you for all you do.
Lisa.
February 29th, 2008 at 9:52 am
I am also curious how Jan 5th became an R1! With a 1/16 LID, one day could make a world of difference for when we receive our referral.

Happy Leap Year ~
Leap years are needed to keep our calendar in alignment with the earth’s revolutions around the sun. Just alittle background I looked up.
I would like say welcome 2006 and farewell 2005 - where’s the smiley with the boot…

Lets hope today is the day..it is a leap year and I was hoping that this would happen…Congrats to everyone.
penelope1…October 07 had referrals from November 26-30th…I guess you mean 3 business days…though…hopefully nothing as horrible as 2-3 day batches ever again…
February 29th, 2008 at 10:15 am
where are the best/worst/horrid case scenario’s?
I can’t find them.

Dearest Rumor Queen,
First of all: thks a million for your great work!! We are from The Netherlands and we cant tell how much we appreciate your information and the way you present it.
Untill recently I only checked your site daily round the end of the month to see how many days we could scrap. Last month I am producing that many hits on your site your advertiser will go bankrupt!
Our LID is jan. 4, 2006 and we are very nervous.
I guess that if the cut off is jan. 4, that means that jan. 4 is not in the batch… So now it is moving to R3 I think we just missed it this month.
We are lucky and very thankfull to be this close, especially reading all the other comments. We wish everyone all the best and hope and pray for big batches.
Nothing there to do but to hope, pray and support each other. It is a blessing that in this very insecure situation there is a reliable source of information: RQ!!
Somebody mentioned that Canadian agency confirming it would be the 5th made our hearts jump. But the R3 made us fold the Chinese flag again …. hopefully next month!!!
Love to you all from grey and rainy Holland

Jeroen1970, if the cut-off is in fact 1-4-06, then you are in this batch!! The cut-off date always includes that date.
I’d love to hear more about this 1-5-06 R1 rumor, though.

“I was hoping to have something concrete today, or at least R4 material, but we’re not there yet.
We’ve got several agencies saying December 27th, and at this point I’m willing to go to an R3 that the 27th is included, and an R2 that the 27th is the cut off.

This is off topic and I am not sure how to start a new topic. But my husband just sent me a news story which reports that China is going to eventually get rid of its one child policy. The article is entitled “China may scrap one-child policy, official says” and written by Lucy Hornby. It was on Reuters yesterday.
February 29th, 2008 at 10:41 am
Okay, after reading the article yesterday about China possibly doing away with the one child policy, and counting the days between Jan 4th 06 and Feb 07 (my LID), I went home and opted for the Vodka collins… the hot cup of tea just wasn’t cutting it! :) And today I feel much better.

I’ve also decided that I’ve had enough of winter and it needs to leave! I sent my daughter to school today in pink capris and a white eyelit shirt (under her snow suit, of course). Tonight for supper, we’re dragging the grill out of the garage (I think we can get past the snowbankings!) and we’re cooking burgers! Enough is enough :)
Happy Leap Day to all!
February 29th, 2008 at 10:41 am
As another curious, anxious 1/05 family we’d love to hear more about the 1/5 rumor. If it turns out to be 1/4 at least we will feel good knowing that we will be in next month’s batch and that we will have one more month to work on the nursery.
February 29th, 2008 at 10:57 am
Pleeeeaaaseee, somebody tell me if I should start a new adoption from China. I really don’t mind a three year wait. But five and six seems very scary! My heart just doesn’t want to go anywhere else. ;(
February 29th, 2008 at 10:58 am
CatherinetheGreat,
Oops, I’m sorry. I had the days referred that month wrong.
Thanks for pointing it out!
February 29th, 2008 at 11:17 am
Jodhi,
Don’t do it. At least not now. The program is way too unstable, and the uncertainties will wreak havoc with you, your loved ones, etc….
I’d wait at least until those May ‘07 people get through the system, re-assess how it’s moving then, if at all, then m.a.y.b.e. get in line if it still looks hopeful and your quiver isn’t full by then… Seriously, you could add several children to your family by then, either by birth or adoption, or a combo…
If I sound negative, I’m sorry. Just being realistic.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:28 am
Jodhi-
Only you know the answer to that. Can you wait 5-6 years if that’s what it takes? Or would another program work better for you?
Look at your options. Talk to your social worker. Families are made in a lot of different ways. Your heart will tell you which road to take.
I will say that this is definitely not for the faint of heart. You have to be prepared for a very long, bumpy road.

RUMOR QUEEN,
You’ve got the January Room on pins and needles with that “Jan.5th-R1″ possibility……
Can you shed any more light on that possibility? As you know, we are the month that has a) waited the longest, and b) will be the ones most affected by those wonderful olympics……….soooo naturally we are over-analyzing every possible scenario.
Help! Thanks!
February 29th, 2008 at 11:47 am
rjk-
You may be having the same problem that I was. I didn’t realize that Anti-spam words were case-sensitive. When you type in the word, are you being careful to use the correct uppercase and lowercase letters?
Also, I know that it’s easy to feel negative through all this, but try to keep your spirits up. When is your LID?
February 29th, 2008 at 11:47 am
Jodhi — Would it be an option for you to look at the special needs program? I know for myself, my heart couldn’t take getting in the NSN line right now. Only you know how much you can take. But if a 5 or 6 year wait scares you, then I think you should seriously think about that. I personally don’t think people logging in now could possibly get their referral in 3 years.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:59 am
i got it now. sorry for the disturbance..
but may it be at least 01/05 or more to be sure.
all the jan 06′ers and of course the rest all the best!!
are prayers are with you. and thks again RQ

To those who are scared about China changing it’s one child policy, don’t panic. This is HIGHLY unlikely. I read articles just from the end of ‘07 that said this won’t happen. Their resources and environment could not handle it. I quote from the article, “Beijing may change many policies, but not the one child policy.” Hope this calms some fears.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
Our agency just sent an email that said the cutoff is January 4th.

Hi DougH -
Are you with an American, Canadian or European agency? Have their referrals arrived from China?
Thanks for the info!!!!!

I can’t tell you what to do, but unless you are prepared for at least a possible 5 year wait, I would look into other options. We have been waiting for 1 year. It not only takes a hard toll on you, but your entire family. We just paid another $600.00 to update the homestudy again and had to get re-fingerprinted. We have to go through this maybe 2 more times. Our social worker said that the Russia program is really moving fast. Referrals only months after the paperwork is turned in. GOOD LUCK!!

Thank you. It’s so hard having these mixed feelings. I know that the people of China should get to keep their children, and my heart breaks for them that they can’t. And yet, their getting to keep their children would mean me not having mine. Ug, I wish this all were easier.
I do have to say that I love reading posts here from people all over the country and all over the world! We’re all just trying to accomplish the same thing. I’m feeling very Bob Geldof right now :)

What was the $600 fee for? I just hit my 1-year as well, and I haven’t had to pay any additional fees yet. The first re-fingerprinting is no charge, as is the first I600A extension. Was this a fee through your agency?

Hi Jodhi,
I’m not sure how difficult it is to switch programs nor how much more it costs but I think we should learn more about the China program after the Olypmics. If you really want to adopt again from China, I would put my name in line as soon as possible with the idea that there is a good chance you will switch out of it. I would also start investigating where you would like to adopt from as another choice. If you want to adopt sooner rather than later, I think looking elsewhere is more advisable. Personally, if I were just starting now, I would go to another country. China was once predictable and the only predictable thing about China now is its unpredictability.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
If you don’t want to wait more than 3 years, China is not the country for you. There are many other countries to consider if IA is your choice.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
Really? Wouldn’t we all want the one child policy to be revoked so that families, particularly mothers, don’t feel compelled to abandon their children? I am sorry but panicing because an out-dated, incredibly cruel and inhumane law may be abolished is losing sight of the bigger picture here.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Thank you everyone. I just really need to hear the good and the bad. I know that no one but my, myself, and I (oh and my husband) can make this decision. My heart wants to go to CHina but my head is cautious. We were about to apply in January of this year, until we saw this website and realized how long the wait could be. ***sigh***
February 29th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Jodhi - follow your heart :)
our approach is, we put our names in a moved on with our lives, as if we weren’t in line. we aren’t decorating a nursery, picking names, shopping, telling people…anything really besides waiting. one day, it will happen. putting your name in gets you MUCH closer to your little one than not putting in at all right?
I guess our perspective is, even if it is 5-6 years from now, our big picture includes a little one from China. So we took the steps to make that happen - and with an LID of April ‘07, we know it will be years…but better late than never!!
February 29th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
Jodhi- there is no way I would start an adoption with China now. I would go probably go domestic at this point and consider Ethiopia and see if there is anything going on with South America again. China and Vietnam are way too unstable.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
FindingHope,
Along with your I-600A extension request you will need to send an update of your homestudy. Our SW agency charged us almost as much for this as the original even though it was only a one page report.
There are added costs to the wait, our refingerprinting has cost us each time (3rd time now) and we had to pay for the extension on our I-600a because ours was going to expire before the new free extension policy.
Don’t know what the Hague will add for some people but there always seems to be new costs popping up.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
ladyj,
I haven’t been keeping up…why is Vietnam unstable now?

Waitingtobeamom2-
Thank you for the info. I don’t know if my agency charges for the homestudy update.
thepickles-
I tried to post this earlier, but it didn’t go through. That’s the heartbreaking part of this, knowing that my joy comes along with someone else’s loss. And if the policy changes, someone else’s joy may lead to my sadness. It’s hard. There’s no love greater than a parent’s love, and no parent’s love should have to be denied, biological or adoptive.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Jodhi,
I sympathize with your difficult decision about what to do now. If I were starting over, I would spend more time researching our options and considering what we really expected and could handle…a 3-5 yr. wait, an older child, another country. Is there a medical condition that you are familiar/comfortable with and could envision parenting a child with that need?
“Wheresoever you go, go with all your heart.”-Confucius
February 29th, 2008 at 3:33 pm
Jodhi,
Have you considered doing another adoption while you are waiting for China. My husband and I are looking into Ethiopia. We could have a child within the year and still have a 2+ year wait left for the China adoption which would work out well. But of course we are trying to work out the financial situation. Just a thought.
February 29th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
Jodhi,
I know that several have mentioned this. The CHina special needs program could be an option. If you are already DTC, you could get a baby in 3 to 5 months. There are all different SNs and many of the children have already had the medical care they need to be “healthy”. They just were not “healthy” at birth so they are sent as a SN child.
I don’t think the wait will go to 4 years. I still have hope and think it is stable. Russia is an option, but 2 times as much $$. If money is not an issue, that could be an option. I still think China is a great program and you will get a baby. Go with what you feel called to do.
February 29th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
I think I have the China Bug…… or the Ladybug!!! Ha! I really appreciate all the advice. Advice is very much so needed!!!
February 29th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
I strongly believe that the wait will become less but I also believe that China will not close it’s IA programme but it will get more controlled! But for families starting out there are only lots of options if you live in the States!
Here in NZ we have very few options available so China is still our major option with govt to govt agency co operation. Where as Thailand is an option but we only have 5 per year quota! Also there is an issue with Russia at the moment for the Russian agency!
So the fact you do have choice is wonderful embrace it but in reality for us China is the place!

Jodhi -
Congrats on your decision to adopt. It is the best thing that we ever did. We brought our daughter home from China in mid-December 2007 and it has been incredible. We want a little sister for her from China. We cannot submit our dossier until one year from our adoption day (Dec 2008). It is difficult to think that not only will we wait 1 year just to get in line, but probably a good 3 years+ to get her. For us, there are some pros to the age gap (i.e. our #1 will be able to take in China on our second trip, avoiding double preschool fees). We certainly don’t want to wait forever, but we know in our hearts that we want to do this again. Our mindset about it is to submit it and go on with life. If something else comes up in the mean time (interim adoption, birth) then so be it and if not, we are still in line. That day WILL come.
When we logged in, the wait was 7-9 months and we waited 2 years. It seemed like forever. I think the advantage this next time around is that we will expect the worse.
Good luck!

Finding hope
The $600 fee is to update our homestudy each year. The government will give you one free extension of the I600 and fingerprints. We are prepared for 2009 that we will owe another $600 to the agency and $160 for Fingerprints and around $800 for the I600. We have to put aside at least $3000.00 for all the updated info.
