The Department of State has issued a list of agencies accredited to work under the Hague. The list can be found here:
travel.state.gov/family/adoption/convention/convention_4169.html
Hopefully everyone will find their agency on this list. If you don’t find them, then I’d say a phone call to them on Monday will probably be in order.

The agency we used has a “Temporarily Accredited Adoption Service Providers (2 years)” We were thinking of SN with them. Anyone know what the different levels mean?
March 1st, 2008 at 3:10 pm
Wow - our agency is fairly well-known and they aren’t on ANY of the lists. I know they talk a great deal about how we have to do a/b/c in order to follow the Hague, so I wonder why they wouldn’t be accredited?

My agency is not on the list either… as long as we don’t let our I-171H expire are we okay??
March 1st, 2008 at 3:52 pm
We were with a large, well-known agency as well who is not on any of the lists. I am not too concerned because we are already home, but it is confusing…

Our agency is not on the list either. It too is a large and well known agency. Our 171H is set to expire in June. My understanding is that we will be okay as long as we renew before the expiration date.
Does anyone know if that is true? Any advice?

I still am not totally sure I understand exactly what the Hague list is and why it’s so important? Does being on or in our case NOT being on the list impact adoptions in process currently?

Our agency is on the list.

I really don’t think the list is complete or accurate. There are some agencies that are definitely accredited that are not on the list yet. I think there still will be some updates made to it as soon as beaurocracy can be handled. I would still ask your agency if you don’t see them on there so they can be made aware…that you are aware of it.

According to my agency (we received an e-mail today), the COA is way behind in their site visits. An agency cannot be accredited until they have been visited. Many agencies are still pending because of this. They included an e-mail from COA so I believe them. :)

Hi Everyone
Our agency had their visit last June and they are not on the list. The list was only released yesterday, so wht does that mean? is it updated before April or is that it?
Thanks

I don’t know if I’m allowed to post here … but I work for an adoption agency that didn’t make the list published today. We had our site visit and submitted all our papers. Our adviser told us that COA didn’t need anything else from us — that there were no problems, no deficiencies. But we weren’t on the list. We’re hearing the same from some other agencies.
We can only surmise that there have been some glitches in the system, although each case could be different. Some agencies probably have some paperwork deficiencies, others might have gotten lost in the shuffle.
When you contact your “unaccredited” agency on Monday, please be nice — and if you’ve had good experiences with your agency so far, why not continue to hope the best. There’s nothing more disheartening for a case manager than a happy, content client who suddenly becomes angry and distrustful because of what may turn out to be a simple misunderstanding. Save your anger and distrust till you know it’s deserved. :)

I would start emailing or calling the State and Hauge if your agency is not on the list and then contact your agency if it is not listed. RQ is great but she should not be put in the postion of telling you what to do at this level, it is up to you to contact the people you NEED to contact to make sure your agency is acredited. RQ Didn’t you have a Hauge cotact number on one of your posts at one time?

I agree with skittles about not putting RQ in the middle of this. There are a few well known agencies not on the list. Mine is. To someone who said this list is not complete. Not sure where that came from unless they work for the accreditation folks and know something we don’t. Our agency stated this is the final list. I would certainly be calling my agency if I were a client of the 2 bigger ones not on the list.

I work for a very very very small agency and we are on the list-yippee! Here’s a message from the Dept. of State that might calm the panic a bit:
‘Please note that only those adoption service providers that have been accredited, temporarily accredited, or approved by either COA or CO as of today will be able to provide adoption services in connection with Hague adoption cases after the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption enters into force for the United States on April 1, 2008. However, the names of additional adoption service providers will be added to the list on the Department of State website on a rolling basis once we have received notification from the AE’s(accrediting agencies-Council on Accreditation or Colorado) that they are subsequently accredited or approved. Please direct specific questions about the accreditation or approval status of an individual adoption service provider to the applicable Accrediting Entity.’
So, chances are that if your agency is not listed, they may be as soon as their paperwork is in order and it and they have been reviewed.
FYI-The accreditation process is horrendous (but worth it if it ensures ethical practices) and the paperwork generated can exceed 500 pages for some agencies (my agency director sent hers to the COA gift wrapped!) If it takes half as long to review the documents as it did to generate them, I can understand why not every agency that belongs on the list has had a chance to get there. Hopefully, if yours is missing, it will be on there soon.

I’m surprised my agency is on the list…not because they did anything wrong, but because everything else to do with this adoption hasn’t gone our way :(
March 2nd, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Okay, I have a question.
My adoption agency is on the list. We did let our I71-H expire. We are actually sending the paperwork in this week.So does this mean we are okay?
lid May 12,2006
March 2nd, 2008 at 2:27 pm
moon.ladder - why are you sending it out so soon, and blow the $$$, if it has expired anyway? With a May 12th LID it will probably expire again before a referral…and you’ll have to pay again to refile.
Ours expired a while ago, and with a March 23rd 2006, I’m still waiting a couple of months before renewing.
March 2nd, 2008 at 2:28 pm
I meant to say our LID is March 23rd 2006
March 2nd, 2008 at 2:41 pm
p12 actually with all of the talk about the Hague Implentation, I was worried. I don’t want anything to cause us to have to wait longer. And as of right now I am a bit confused about the Hage Implentation, with what it means and how it could affect us.
With my agency being on the list, does this mean that I should be okay to wait?
I was considering to wait. But we would get the free renewal the next time. As long as I am on top of it.LOL I meant to renew last time before it expired. And just got busy with life.
Thanks for the reply:)

I think you should listen to your agency’s recommendation about whether to renew or not. Most are advising that you not let it expire, but many are saying that if you’ve let it expire then you may as well wait to renew it. But, as I said, you should do what your agency says to do, as they will be the ones advocating for you if there are issues.
And if your agency is not listed as accredited then, as I said, do call them and talk to them about it, but as someone else said, give them a chance to talk before you blast them about it.
Some agencies may be umbrella’ing under another agency that is accredited. And some may have done all that is necessary but just haven’t had their visit yet.

I can’t stop my curiosity? Is the Golden Agency on the list?
I know mentioning agency names here is not allowed or appropriate. If someone would feel comfortable emailing me privately and telling me if you see that agencies name on the list, I would really appreciate it.

My agency sent out an email saying the Council on Accreditation (COA) began making visits last year and it is taking them longer than they had expected to complete them all. My agency has had their appt rescheduled several times.
As long as your LID is before April 1, 2008 you are grandfathered in and, it is my understanding, that if your agency is not accredited it is ok as long as you were logged in before April 1, 2008 and you continue to renew your 171h before it expires.
The email says, If logged in before April 1, 2008, “Your China adoption will not be affected. Adoptions already in progress will continue as usual. Your case will be considered a “transitional case” and will proceed as a pre-Hague case. Just don’t let your I-171h expire.”
