Holidays in China
We’ve heard word that China was going to change their national holidays around some and it seems that may have happened.
I’m told that this Friday, April 4th, will be a holiday. That means the CCAA may be closed Friday.
It sounds like the one week holidays in May and October are going to be shortened and the extra days spread around the year a bit.
Can someone out there verify this for me?
(And on the rumor front, I don’t see anything new yet. Everything still points to that 10th to 13th window.)

Hopefully they’ll get this month’s referrals in the mail before taking the day off on Friday!

Our agency called us friday to confirm all availble phone numbers in case its this week. It feels like all hands on deck. What a way to diet I am at warp speed. Can answer the phone before it rings.

We are currently living in Shanghai, and April 4th is tomb sweeping day. All of China will be observing it. Hope they get those referrals out beforehand!!

Mtonkinson,
What is your LID? ;)

I can verify it is a public holiday in China on Friday. Tombing Sweeping Day. All public offices are closed for the day and many private large, especially, multinational firms are closed.
It is a one day holiday.
There has also been some change around the May 1, Labour Day Holiday. Instead of one week, many private firms will only have 3 days, with an additional 2 to be taken @ another time. Staff in China explain to me it is an attempt to deal with the problem of everyone leaving @ the same time as the media broadcast for CNY.

When I was in China 2 months ago our guides told us about these holidays. They said that they will have 5 or so days spread out throughout the year that will give them a few 3 day weekends. I asked if they were taking days off of the longer vacations and they did not think so - but they did not know for sure either. They were very excited about the 3 day weekends!

My Lid is jan 12th 06 and we are pins and needles here. Just returned from Cleveland for refingerprinting, just in case our referral is next month. We are on our way to work in a couple of hours. I don’t expect to hear anything until maybe wednesday, but that doesn’t make the wait any easier. Are we all excited!!!!!!

our agency just sent out an email saying the cut-off is the 9th
March 31st, 2008 at 3:13 pm
No!!! Please let this be wrong!

I heard the same… this was not official CCAA, but a contact. Seems reliable, but we hold out hope since we r 01/10/06 LID.
March 31st, 2008 at 3:24 pm
This is what the email said, “We have just leaned through our in-China contact that China referrals for this month has been matched only through 1/9/2006. This will mean that our 1/10/2006 group is not included in this month referrals. This news is not confirmed by CCAA and it is not official yet, but we do feel feel confident of our connections in China.”

I just heard the same news about 1/9. A friend with a 1/10 LID was just told by her agency that she is not included this month.

teaffe,
Is your next LID at your agency the 9th perhaps?
Or is your agency certain that across the board the cut off date is the 9th? Thanks
LID 1/11th

This agency has a group with Jan. 10th LID. They are letting their families know they will not be included. Atleast that is the way I read it. Starting to feel like this is never going to happen!!!

In preparation for April’s Fool Day, does anyone else feel foolish for thinking a speed up will happen?
March 31st, 2008 at 4:06 pm
My agency just e-mailed. They said Jan.9th IS the cut off. We missed it by 1 day :(
March 31st, 2008 at 4:14 pm
If that is correct, this is not good at all.

Thanks, Oreo…Do you know if Labor Day in May is considered the “international holiday”? I was told my travel group (Jan 4 LID) will travel after the “international holiday” in May.
