I would imagine that yes, adoptions will slow down. Let's think of them and pray in whatever faith or form, for them. We need to let them grieve. Tempting as wanting to know when things will speed up for us is, right now, it is not the time. Thank you for the links to where we can contribute and donate.

it would logical seem possible that IA's would almost stop altogether while those that have lost children in the tragedy look to fill their homes again with a child. Which is good on that side of the picture for those families that are grieving and those babies/children that need families. It is hard on this side when our hearts/homes have been so ready for a child for so long.

cjajbell - just a guess...but I would think this would create more orphans than demand for them.

This is the CCAA's "Press Release"

Donna

Date of Release:May 15,2008　　Source:CCAA

An earthquake of magnitude 7.8 struck Wenchuan, Sichuan Province on the afternoon of May 12. China was shocked, so was the world. The intensity, wide-spread area affected and severity of loss in human life and property are the most unusual during the past several decades. The situation of this disaster draws the attention of people all over China and the world. After the earthquake struck, we received telephone calls from US and Spanish agencies, which showed a lot of concern over the situation in affected areas and their wish to provide assistance and help to welfare institutions in these places. Hereby China Center of Adoption Affairs (CCAA) would like to give its sincere gratitude to those agencies that are concerned about orphaned and disabled children in welfare institutions. It is known that up till now situation is not quite sure in welfare institutions of severely affected areas due to interruption of communication. There is no one injured or dead in institutions of other affected areas in Sichuan. The damage of houses and facilities is still under investigation for statistics.

Adoptive families and agencies that would like to donate to the welfare institutions in affected areas could transfer the money to the donation account of Child Caring Project of CCAA (http://www.china-ccaa.org/site/infocontent/AXFX_20080202111550314_en.htm). We will make timely arrangement and help the institutions rebuild themselves after the disaster.

The following is posted on HTS's website regarding the Ford matching:

Important Correction Regarding Ford Motor Company’s Generous Matching Gift Program:
Ford Motor Company has generously offered to match every gift to HTS Children’s Earthquake Fund made by its employees via GlobalGiving. The word “employees” was left out of Jenny’s last email and we apologize for the error.

waitingforMariaFaith - since Ford is matching funds for HTS, if you donate to them then over 100% of what you donate makes it to the kids.

Can anyone help me put together a list of earthquake relief funds that donate 100% of the funds to China? My agency just put out an email about their relief fund, but they are keeping 10% for "administrative expenses". I want to respond to the email group with a list of other funds where 100% goes to China, especially to orphanages and children. All I have right now is Love Without Boundaries. Any help is greatly appreciated!

We just received an email from our agency that they have a fund set up for orphanages effected by the earthquake. They are, however, taking 10% of the donation for "administrative expenses", which makes me crazy! I found on the Love Without Boundaries site that 100% of donations to their fund goes to China. I would like to respond to my agency's "generous" offer with a list of alternatives where 100% of the donation reaches those in need. Can anyone help me with a list of links?

Thanks!!!

The news this morning (CBC in Canada) commented on the fact that due to the one child policy, many families in China will now be childless because of the losses from the quake. My heart goes out to those parents

I also wonder if this will create more demand for orphans from within China (which is great for them) and possibly slow things down for us (which isn't so great for us). Just thinking outloud in text format. Anyone else have this worry?
