Site issues, and some tragic news

The news is bad this morning for the Steven Curtis Chapman family. Their youngest daughter was killed in a tragic accident. You can read about it here. My heart goes out to the family. This will be especially hard to get through. You are supposed to be able to get angry at the person who killed your daughter, and they can’t really do that. Their son needs his parents now, too, and they’ve got to be there for him. I can’t imagine being in that position as a parent. My condolences go out to the entire family.
Life is short. If you’ve got children at home give them an extra hug.

Such sad, sad news. My heart goes out to all of them. So heartbreaking :(

My heart goes out to that family. So sad… I don’t have the words.

Thanks for posting this. I cannot even imagine the grief and pain they must all be feeling, but my heart especially goes out to that son. Oh his pain. As a mom of a little one who has been life-flighted, the chaos and the stress that hits your system is inexplicable. I cannot even fathom the grief that now piles on top of that. Good admonishment too - hug the ones you love. Life is short and not in our hands at all.

RQ-
You’re good at putting things like this together, or at least advising us on how to do it. Is there any interest in putting together some kind of group donation made in this little girl’s name? We could put it to the quake victims, Half the Sky or something appropriate to give at least some kind of light in this tragic moment. This family seems like one whom this would be important to.

I read about this last night….it was difficult going to sleep. In all things that happen good or bad you often try to find some reasoning….its just impossible with this. From everything you read this family was incredible and loves their children more than anything else….
Its unsettleing….RQ is right…life is short and way unpredictable….love everyone in your life….
This family in my thoughts and heart…

What about Shaohannah’s Hope, the organization formed by their family to aid families wanting to adopt? Any other ideas?
May 22nd, 2008 at 9:27 am
That is so tragic and heart breaking. My thoughts and prayers go out to them.

In addition to feeling bad for the parents and sad for the little girl who died, I feel bad the siblings who watched the accident. Details are still emerging but I do really feel bad for the son. It was an accident, not intentional, and he will have to live with this for the rest of his life.
May 22nd, 2008 at 9:31 am
We’re planning on giving to Shaohannah’s Hope - they have helped so many families with grants that to me it is very fitting to give to that.
Like kms - my heart goes out to all the family, but I can’t even imagine the anguish of her brother.

I hesitate to say this here, but they are our really good friends. Our families are intertwined on several levels, including adoption. And I know that they would be so humbled and grateful for gifts sent in Maria Sue’s honor to go to “Shaohannah’s Hope.”
Bless you all for your prayers for this amazing family who has given so much for the cause of bringing orphans to their forever families.

This is a very tragic story, but unfortunately this happens more than you know. We had this happen in our community 9 months ago. The father was backing out of the driveway and struck and killed his 18 month old little girl who was playing in the driveway. It was devastating for all involved. It makes you think twice before you back out of your garage or driveway. I believe this is why more and more SUVs are being made with the cameras or sensors so you can see what is behind you when you are backing up.

This such a tragedy, unfortunately this happens more than you want to know. We had this happen in our community 9 months ago. The father backed out of the driveway and struck and killed his 18 month old daughter. It was a horrible thing to watch this family work through. It definitely make you think twice before you put it in reverse. I believe this is why a lot of SUVs are now installing the reverse cameras and auto sensors.

I am so sad for the Chapmans, both the parents and the son. How HORRIBLE. I have been sitting here at work and cannot get anything done as all I want to do is cry for this family. I feel so bad for them. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as you go through the day.

I just read about this in our paper this am- I bought his CD last Christmas. What a horrible tragedy- My prayers go out to the whole family-

Our hearts are broken for the family. It seems so close to home because we have a 19 year old son and an almost-five-year-old daughter, plus we met SCC soon after Kayden came home, and he is so humble. We are praying for the family as they grieve.

I was so sad when I heard the news this morning on the radio. I can’t imagine what they are feeling right now. I watched his video again this morning for Cinderella. He says to savor every moment with your children because they slip away so fast. I know he never imagined that he would lose a daughter so tragically. My prayers are with him and his family. This will change their lives forever. I pray the brother will overcome this. He will suffer the most.
I also saw on the yahoo news this morning where so far over 4,000 children in China are orphans due to the earthquake. In the article it read that many chinese families have already ask for these children for adoption. My prayer is that these children will get to stay in China and be adopted by the Chinese families who have lost their only child in this earthquake. I know many families are waiting here in the US for children from China. I just pray these special children will get to stay with a wonderful family in China.

I’m beyond sad with these news. Our prayers and thoughts are with the entire family. I cannot imagine what they are going through.
I attended my daughter’s PreK4 graduation yesterday and one of the speakers was a mom who lost her young (toddler) son to a car accident. She said something that we all know, but sometimes forget. Life is short and unpredictable, don’t sweat the small stuff. Enjoy the time with your children.

Our hearts are broken for the family as they grieve. This strikes so close to home, as we have a 19 year old son and an almost-five-year-old daughter. We were privileged to meet SCC in 2005 soon after Kayden came home, and he is one of the most humble people I’ve met. We will continue to pray for them.

As the mother of a teen driver nad a 4 year old that is my worst night-mare. I always tell my son to be extra careful in the neighborhoods because children are so unpredictable. They can pop out from nowhere. I wish the young boy is able to find pece some way, some how.

My heart breaks for this family who has done so much for so many.
Someone mentioned a donation from RQ readers- I am fine with whichever deserving agency but the family has asked that memorials be made to Shaohannah’s Hope.
May 22nd, 2008 at 12:01 pm
For those who want to give, the family has requested memorial donations be made to Shaohannah’s Hope:

As a mom to teenagers and toddlers, this is one of my greatest fears and my heart goes out to the Chapman family.

TrulyBlessed-
Thank you for the information. I went to the site, and they have set up a special fund in memory of their daughter, Maria Sue. When you make your donation, there is a space for you to leave a message for the family. As this was the family’s wish, I took the liberty of making my donation.
Thanks for the link.

I cannot even find the words to express my grief. I cannot imagine what pain this family is in right now. I hope that their son can find a way to forgive himself and somehow get through this.
Unfortunately this is such a common accident. It is just so very sad for everyone.

This family (although we have never met them, but have been to many concerts) had such a profound influence on our decision to adopt … and to adopt again. He and his music have touched so many people in such a positive way. Lucy

My thoughts and prayers are with this AMAZING
FAMILY! This is so very SAD!!! Like RQ SAID
GIVE YOUR CHILDREN THAT EXTRA HUG!!!

I have been crying off and on all morning about this. The poor son…I can’t imagine the guilt he must be feeling.
I read on SCC’s blog that just hours ago they were celebrating his oldest daughter’s engagement. If you go onto his blog there are some video clips of beautiful Maria washing dishes with her father.
Their daughter Maria just turned 5 years old ten days ago. My daughter’s age. Wow.
And then I made the mistake of reading Perez Hilton and the some of the comments that people left about the accident were just horrific. What is wrong with people???

This has been a hard day thinking about the Chapman Family. Our hearts are broken for them all. As another mom of older children and toddlers, I agree that this has to be the toughest thing to deal with. Steven Curtis Chapman had a lot to do with encouraging us to adopt through his example and he has always been so kind and wrote that song for the family who lost their daughter in Columbine “This was her Time” and there was another song he wrote for a family friend who lost a child tragically. I have heard such wondeful things about him for years and I am so sorry to see this family suffer such an awful tragedy at a time that should have been happy with an engagement and a graduation dinner. Our thoughts and prayers are with them!
