No rumors this morning
I don’t see any rumors of a cut off yet.
There is an interesting news story about the Chinese government opening up registrations for those wanting to adopt orphans from the quake. They make a note of saying foreigners can not apply.

Thanks for the condolences, but I’m really okay. This is goodbye, but it isn’t completely unexpected. I saw him not too long ago and mentally said my goodbyes then, since I kind of knew it was coming. His wife of 60 something years died not too long ago and I knew he wouldn’t be too far behind. He is in his 80’s, so he’s lived a long life. He’s been mostly healthy, and he went quickly. Can’t ask for more than that.

Is it just me, or are rumors arriving later and later with each month? After 31 months in this process, you’d think I’d learned a lesson of patience. But no, I’m more impatient than ever before. :)
Come on, rumors! Come on, referrals!!

Hey Nina, do you think the fact you are becoming more impatient has anything to with YOUR REFERRAL IS ALMOST HERE?! Ha! I know I would be bouncing off the walls. Hope you hear something soon.

About the news story: I’m kinda pleased they made that remark about foreigners not being eligible to adopt. I can only imagine how many people are interested in adopting only a child who survived the quake so they could say they adopted their child who survived the quake. I can’t see a separate process for those orphaned from the quake and new people going into the program with their mind on the quake would think oh, this will be quick there are all these orphans…..

Thank you for sharing the link to the news article. Did anyone else finish the story noting this…. The story indicates that a reported 10K people have applied for earthquake orphaned children….hummm even if only have that amount 5K…and that they must be “childless” …sure supports CCAA’s postition that more and more domestic adoptions are on the rise. If you think about it…if you are childless and have a choice…would one choose a young as possible newborn from a SWI or a tramatized post earthquake child? (I do not mean to sound cold but I would guess many would choose the first) My heart goes out to all the the children that suffered the loss of their families in the earthquake. I think it is wonderful that familes are rallying to adopt these children. But if you have 10K or 5K wanting from one area wanting to adopt…imagine how many others are out there in China wanting to adopt. It makes sense to me then that inchina adoptions are on the rise and are becoming less stigmatized. Just something that crossed my mind when I was reading the news article.

on the knickers front, I order mine from the UK, the Marks & Spencers ones fit beautifully and come in small sizes like 1.5-2 yrs. I find them new on ebay.uk.com
Other countries tend to potty train early thats why we dont make them small here in the States. My DD was 16 months and fully potty trained and in the 5th percentile…I had to get undies somewhere!

He sounds like such a special man – everyone should be as fortunate to know at least once such a kind soul. Wishing you and your family RQ peace during this sad time.

kiwimum,
That’s funny. I used to have my mom mail me underwear from France for my oldest (who was so thin she never went past a size 3 diaper). You can find panties for babies over there sicne they get trained so much earlier, and they get used over diapers also.

A little off topic but I thought I would share this with you all. We had Chinese food for supper this evening. This is what my fortune cookie read:
“Look for the dream that keeps coming back. It is your destiny.”
Hang in there everyone.

Thank you RQ for taking the time to share that article with us when you have so much else going on. I so appreciate the lifeline you have for us here.
I also wanted to thank the future grandma who posted here the other night about her own wait for her son 30 years ago. It was important for all of us to know how lucky we are now to have so much more information.
I thought this was a very interesting article on the ‘me’ generation in China:
http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2008-08/27/content_6972930.htm
And finally, here is another article on the quake victims, with so far none adopted:

Interesting how this will play out. Presumably every person in China that now adopts an earthquake orphan, won’t then adopt a “regular” orphan. I hope it will put some pressure on increasing referrals to foreigners on these children.

I’m so sorry for you loss. Thanks so much for the updates and congrats to anyone with upcoming referrals this month.
