Hannah Montana
As much as I roll my eyes at Hannah Montana, I actually like the show. I don’t like all of the marketing around it, but the actual show is good.
My biggest reason for liking it is the relationship she has with her father. So many shows and movies have the parents being stupid and the kids knowing more than the parents. But the relationship Miley/Hannah has with her dad is one of mutual respect and understanding. Dad gives advice, kid usually listens. Kid even goes to dad for advice, and dad usually gives reasonable advice. And sometimes dad does what I do, gives just a little advice and then points out that he can’t make this decision for her, but he’ll support her in whatever she decides is the best thing to do.
I also like the message given that Miley doesn’t need other people’s approval or acceptance of her in order for her to feel good about herself. It would be so easy for her to put the “rude girls” at school in their place by telling them who she is. But she doesn’t. She knows who she is, and that is all that matters.
GlitterGirl and I watch the shows together and we have conversations afterward about the difference in the way Miley dresses as herself and as Hannah. We look at pictures of her as Miley and as Hannah and talk about the difference in make-up. We also talk about how she must feel when the kids at school are mean, and why she doesn’t tell them she’s Hannah Montana so she can prove to them that she’s not a geek. When Miley and Lilly disagree or fight we talk about how they handle it. And when Miley and her dad have a disagreement we talk about how that is handled as well.
Maybe that’s what I really like about the show, the conversations that it opens up for the two of us to have.

I personally know Billy Ray & Miley and their relationship is similar to their “onscreen” relationship even at home.
She is a good kid-so are all the others. And as much as I can not stand to hear Billy Ray try to sing (Sorry Billy) the family is great to be with!
Oh…and if you think Miley is something…watch out for Noah! She would come and “work” for me at age 4 by “answering” calls and “booking” travel dates ect! Absolutely ADORABLE! I can’t wait to see her hit the big screen too!
We were all so excited when she got the call that Hannah Montana was a go! Unfortunately it took a LOT of convincing to have Billy be the dad on the show…go figure!

I too like that there is communication between parent and child. There is always a lesson in the episode. My little niece is 4 and is already addicted to the merchandise. Also, I recently went on a 4 hour trip and listened the “The Best of Both Worlds” till I wanted to throw up…..

We’re HUGE Hannah Montana fans! In fact, I had to use the friendship between Miley, Lily and Oliver just the other day to help my daughter through a situation. My daughter needed to understand that you don’t have to be “popular” with everyone, that it’s more important to have one or two true friends that you know are with you for the right reasons. Even “Jake”, the cool teenage star who came to their school as a student, liked Miley the best, the one girl who liked him for who he was and not for his celebrity.
I also like the lyrics to her music, very empowering for girls. We use her CD for a lot of activities in our Daisy troop. “Who said I can’t be superman? I say that I know I can. Who said I can’t be ten feet tall? I say I can have it all. Who said?”

I just hope that Miley in real life keeps her feet on the ground. My older dd (13) still watches the show but is no longer a huge Hannah fan. And Miley just seems to be starting on that slippery slope that trips up many of the teen stars. With the internet pictures in her underwear, in the shower and the lyrics to “Seven Things I Hate about You” she seems to be getting a bit more edgy. I know you can’t stay young forever, but 16 is too young to need to be so “mature”. Stardom just seems to make the kids grow up way too fast, so I hope she stays grounded by her family. It would be nice to see a teen star that doesn’t follow the Brittany and Lindsey trend!

I like the show too – especially how Miley screws up and acts dorky and gets embarrased. It’s great that she seems so “real.” I’ve actually felt a little sad to see the show, and Miley, getting so wildly popular. Miley seems like such a great kid – hopefully her family can help shelter her from some of the crap and she can finish growing up in a healthy way.

I was looking at the news on yahoo and noticed this link to CNN where babies in China are sick from tainted baby formula. So sad.

Wow. After these rave reviews, I will have to give the show another chance. I watched it for about 5 minutes but turned the channel because the acting was so bad….

We too are big Miley fans. The show is a fresh breath of air compared to many other shows that my teen and preteen children coud be watching. We never got alll into the merchandising though. I too hope that Miley keeps her feet on the ground. I heard that she wants to go to college in London to study fashion design. That seems like every little girl’s dream. If you think the show is funny you should check out some of her “Miley and Mandy” shows on You Tube. They will make you laugh!

My 10 year old also loves Hannah! I think it is a good show with good moral values. I also hope that Miley keeps her head on her shoulders and does not get wild.

Hi Everyone
I just noticed on the CCAA website that the US embassy had a meeting with the CCAA on the 12th of September.
Does anyone know what the outcome was?
Is it good news?
Thanks
