  1. Nana2Livi Says:

No, no, RQ, it is not a blue square, it is a purple square. If held in just the right light, you may see that it is a purple square. What is it about the square that makes you think it is blue? And why do you think it is blue? (lol) I wonder how many were not around when we had this exercise before!

    Good point nana2livi.

If you have no clue what this post is about, you might want to check out this thread from August of ‘07 in the forum:

    http://chinaadopttalk.com/forum/index.php?topic=8383.0
(You have to be logged in to the forum to see it since it’s not in a public area of the site.)

  5. jemf Says:

    No, it’s actually happy! :)

  6. DebL Says:

RQ, you have a twisted sense of humor and I love it!!! I work with someone is so obstinate. I would say the sky is blue and she would argue the shade. I sometimes think it boils down to competition.

  7. waiting4Ash Says:

Blue Square thread!!! One of my all time favorites!!!!

  8. Liz Says:

While I’ll agree that this shape is blue, I am offended by the use of the word “square”. This shape is actually a rectangle that has four right angles and equal parallel sides. I think we all need to be respectful and refer to it as a rectangle.

  9. YR Says:

Hey, I resembele that, I’m now square nor am I blue. I remember this from before. Fun.

  10. kms Says:

    :-)

Looks blue to me. But some graphic cards on other computers might make it appear more purple. LOL

The holidays are approaching and it’s making us all goofy.

  11. tiredofw8ing Says:

    I disagree. It’s a rhombus.
Maybe you should go back to elementary school!
    geesh!

  12. Liz Says:

Oops I meant to say the “color” is blue, not the shape. More coffee for me. And I remember the first time we did this too. Weren’t there a ton of comments?

  13. randyburtis Says:

it is SOOOOO obvious, it is white, that is the outmost square the comment is talking about, GEEESSH! ;)

  14. MyBabyGirl Says:

    No, the square is white.
“This square is blue” is written on/in the white square, thus the square is white. It does, however, have a blue square in/on it.

Thanks RQ, needed something different today.

  15. sewhopeful22 Says:

Seriously… which square?? There is a BLUE square and writing inside a WHITE square!

  16. daisiesinbloom Says:

I am quite offended RQ. Is there a reason why you posted a BLUE square instead of a pink one? Pink is for girls and blue is for boys.

I won’t even go into WHY you chose to make the color blue a square. ;)

  17. KarenInCa Says:

How do you know the color you see and call “blue”, is the same color I see and call “blue”?

  18. patientlywaiting Says:

Well you should all have your eyes checked because it is not a “blue square” but a pink polka dotted circle!

  19. Noendinsight Says:

How dare you tell me what this color looks like on my computer screen?!

Are you trying to dictate to me that my favorite color should be blue? Or that I shouldn’t like the color blue?

I had a loved one pass away whose favorite color was blue so this is a very painful subject for me and brings up a lot of issues.

I don’t think anything can be gained from discussing colors or squares on this site, it’s too heated a topic.

My beliefs over colors and shapes are MINE. If someone wants to argue them with me they can PM me.

  20. FindingHope Says:

Okay, I’m an idiot. I kept clicking on it thinking it was going to turn into something else! ha ha ha ha ha ha

  21. bethsnow Says:

    Thanks! I needed that!!! :)

  22. John2China Says:

Actually, even if you were talking about the inner square, the word blue is awfully vague and has some serious negative connotations. Would you want people commenting on how blue you were? I think the square is royal, and to call it anything else is just plain discrimination!

  23. ldw4mlo Says:

ok, first of all that is clearly 2 triangles stuck together.
And why didn’t you pick green, do you have something against green :)

  24. RumorQueen Says:

Sorry, the white part is a rectangle, not a square.

The only square is the blue one.

  25. kms Says:

Can a blue square even be happy? Can a tickled pink square ever be blue?

Can a blue square ever be green with jealously?

    Kristine

  26. bob Says:

Hey, it’s your site. I think if you want to call that a blue square, then here, that’s a blue square. It’s nice to know where you’re coming from on that whole blue square topic. It will help me put similar topics here in context.

    Bob

  27. awaiting.ella Says:

Why do you have to single out blue squares? Why only talk about them? What about red triangles or purple circles? If you want to be so close-minded that you exclude all but blue squares, then I don’t think I want to be a part of this community anymore.

  28. kimmieeleven Says:

The square is not really a true blue square! According to my dh, a lithographer in his past life, the square is really made of blue, black and white. Therefore it is not a blue square! Ha! Love this exercise :)

  29. Tresordasie Says:

Why is the square sad? I think we should be more sensitive to its feelings.

  30. mommyagain Says:

Maybe RQ should follow her own rules!!! We are not supposed to post anything political and religious. By posting a blue square you are clearly trying to make us lean towards blue squares in which I am totally against. I am COMPLETELY offended and am never coming back to this site again!!!

  31. mlb75 Says:

Why is this square bigger than squares in the past. This must mean that the CCAA speed up is finally here.

  32. mommyagain Says:

When the whole blue square came out last time – I was a little befuddled. Now I think it is hilarious becuase it REALLY is so true. Someone is always argumentative or offended. Hilarious – thanks for the laugh!!!

  33. mdwaiting Says:

This is pretty funny. But I think I must have missed whatever caused RQ to post this. What did I miss??

  34. devorah Says:

Are we really going down this rabbit hole again? I have tears in my eyes for all the other squares out there that are being ignored, left out, and offensively neglected by this post. And what of the other shapes? This is not to mention the actual and very apparent periwinkle nature of this particular “square,” and I agree with Liz–name-calling and labels are not what are called for in these times. I love you RQ, and I don’t know what I would do without this site, but when I find myself getting sucked into these nobody-wins topics, I wonder why it is that I keep coming back. Maybe I have to admit what’s deep inside…that I am not as sensitive as I portray myself to be, and I truly am actually….drawn….to…the…blue…square….
    So sad.

  35. Mamamon Says:

First of all, that is not a blue square, it’s a picture of a blue square. I can’t believe how ignorant and yet loud in their misled opinions grown people can be.

  36. anxiously waiting Says:

    she said blue right?
    must be blue right?
    Oh yeah its blue?
You don’t think it is something else do you?
    I hope not.

    Adding to the experiment.

  37. Liz Says:

Thank you for validating my feeling devorah. I felt like no one was respecting my rectangle copmment. I have a website dedicated to the proper terms for the different geometric shapes. People really need to be more aware of this cause.

  38. uumom Says:

    Liz – preach it, sister!

Where others see a mere square, there are a precious few who see the shape for what it really is. Rectangular.

I will now return to the blogosphere, where I will soon post my 9999th post devoted to all things geometric (except squares).

    UUmom

  39. mlb75 Says:

    AW,

The Rumor Queen said it is Blue, this is her living room and she says blue. If I thought it was red but she said it was blue then I would certainly agree with her, though I could go else where and say that I thought it was red

  40. tiredofw8ing Says:

squares can be rectangles but rectangles cannot be squares. I think we should all respect this philosophy.

Red and yellow, black and blue and white they are precious in His sight…

  41. ChristineReal Says:

You are so funny FindingHope…. :)

  42. khk22 Says:

Well, back in 2005 when I was paperchasing, I thought that symbol I saw on this post was a blue square. Silly me, now that I have had to wait and wait and wait, I am sure that I am a different person and where I once saw a blue square, now I am just blue!

  43. Noendinsight Says:

    I’ll believe it’s blue once it’s given an R4 or an R5

  44. jaclyn Says:

I don’t get people. Why don’t they see what I see? It is not a blue square. Hello people!!! it is clearly a white square. Inside the main white square is a blue square with some wording that says…..”This square is blue”. But the main square is white. This is CLEARLY a white square. What don’t you guys get?

  45. devorah Says:

    khk22 Says:
Well, back in 2005 when I was paperchasing…….now that I have had to wait and wait and wait…..

OK, don’t even GO THERE! Look, just because you have BEEN to China once before, it does not make your view of blue squares any more or less difficult than MY view of blue squares. We’re all in the same blue square boat together. Can’t we be more kind to each other and try to be more sensitive to where others are coming from? We are better than this, really.

  46. D2EBDA Says:

Those of us that are not American are not being properly considered here – it is blue in COLOUR not COLOR!!!

  47. imdmom Says:

OK…I just have to say….for all of you “claiming” or even “mentioning” of rectangles…YOU’RE WRONG!!!! ANY kindergartner knows they are NOT called rectangles….they are called “rectables”!!!!! Ha! Ha! If you don’t believe me I can ask 60 kindergartners and they will correct you. Of course, that is usually when we are working on “patterens” NOT patterns! LOL!!!
They crack me up with what they say!

As for me….I’m still trying to figure out which square you are referring to! Ugh…I hate math!
Speaking of math….I have to go help ds with his pre-algebra….poor thing’s in trouble!!!!

Is the outer box a white outie and the blue inner box a blue innie?

So, what is the color between the pixels? How dense do the pixels have to get before they implode? Another 2 day CCAA batch?

Do imploding pixels make a noise when no one is listening?

  49. mom23boys Says:

Can we please be exact on the color blue- there are so many variations… with all the uncertainty in my life these days- specific details make me feel better. Thank you for the ROYAL blue square thread- it goes with your queendom! ;)

Well I have no clue as to what the heck is going on here with this blue (if you say so) squarish rectangle, but I am just glad to have someone finally change the subject. At least my mind is off the “wai*”.

Here’s to all squares and rectangles no matter what color!

  53. dilinn Says:

Your choice of a blue square rather than a read square very clearly conveys your political persuasions. This thread should be locked immediately.

  54. dilinn Says:

I mean “red” square, not “read” square.

  55. kms Says:

My dh who has never wanted to post saw this and wanted me to point out that the test isn’t fair to the colorblind and steps could be taken to make the experiment more compliant to the ADA.

    Kristine :-)

  56. ginmiller Says:

Just got word from my agency. The box has changed. The square is now blue-violet. I’m so depressed. I was hoping they’d get at least halfway through the color-wheel this month =(.

  57. sewhopeful22 Says:

Thank you RQ for straightening me out on the White square. Ooops, I mean rectangle! That is precisely the reason I come to this site, day after day, to sort through the rumors on the ‘Shape of things’!

I only wish I had been to China once before but alas my blue mood comes from NOT having been to China yet but still waiting and waiting….here’s to the same blue square boat!

Now that I think about it, I really like 5 word sentences. So I think the words under the blue square should read “This is a blue square” not “This square is blue”. 5 word sentences are better than 4 word sentences!!

  59. aust2china Says:

I thought it was a diamond on its side… I also see cobalt… blue is so “yesterday”!

  60. hopesemper Says:

    RQ

Would you please share the statistical analysis that led you to the conclusion that a) this is a square and b) that it is blue? I think it is all speculation and I, for one, refuse to believe it:-)

After today’s day at work and I’m thankful I have work, I LOVED this.

  61. allisonsmom Says:

  62. mumarlene Says:

…hummmm…psychoanalysis at its best…just like the old fashion ink blot tests…..I see two squares being able to live side by side and compliment each other..they have two distinct colours, but same shape….much like how our family will look like when we get out daughter home …..a beautiful “white and blue square” family who can coexist together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ps My blue is an azure shade of blue too!!!!!!!!!!

  63. Sherry in Vermont Says:

Yeah, blue is square, man. That’s why *I* dig purple. ;P

  64. josselynrd Says:

You all are clearly missing the point. Haven’t you people read up on the attachment process? This is not a post about color or shape, but about best parenting practices that facilitate the bonding process. The strong white boundary around the anxious blue square signifies the safe space that the attuned and educated adoptive parent should provide to their adopted shape – a secure yet loving containment…

  65. YR Says:

Greedy girl here posting twice. So RQ does RK agree it is a blue square? I seem to recall it was his concept in the first place. Hee, Hee!

  66. mommyagain Says:

    We can’t forget this one…..

I must be MORE upset becuse of the blue square because I don’t have any blue squares yet. You can’t possibly be more upset beucase you ALREADY have one :0

How many times has this one come up???

  67. acnoriel Says:

The real question is, “does the blue square really exist?”

  68. slbmacy Says:

Just because it’s a blue square today, will it still be a blue square tomorrow?

  69. Perudy Says:

I think we should stop focusing on the blue square and think about the poor waiting circles.

  70. cassiesmom Says:

I can’t believe you guys are even noticing the alleged square when there is offensive adverstising material flanking the square on both sides….Now we know exactly where RQ stands on everything…..The alleged square and the purpose of the site is completely irrelevant….

  71. pencib Says:

    I’m just confused.
There are so many shades of blue you’d think you’d be a bit more specific. I’m going with cerealean blue. The color get a bit darker almost in the royal tones when you look close and from under.

  72. cooperbabe Says:

I guess it all depends on what your definition of “is” is

  73. azawa Says:

There are two squares. The one stated to be blue and the one percieved to be white on which the stated to be blue square sits.

  74. pilznar Says:

Actually, “this square” is white. The square within the white square is blue.

On a serious note, I am blue too.

  75. azawa Says:

Meditate on the square and lose your attachment to the square and the color blue.

  78. Liz Says:

Oh, and please forgive my typos, I just got home about an hour ago from knee surgery and I’m still a little loopy.

  79. jaclyn Says:

It has been clearly stated time after time that the SQUARE is BLUE. I don’t know why people keep thinking it is rectangular or white or hoping it is pink or purple. It is not and it is not going to change. You keep hoping it will change. Month after month you miraculously think it will change to a pretty shade of pink and each month you are let down. CCAA has stated that it is square and it is blue. As soon as you accept that the better off you will be.

    Square and blue people.

My computer monitor cord has a broken prong so I have to tug on it with my toes until the screen turns a normal color. If I tug too hard or the wrong way, the square is green, grey or yellow…. so nope… it’s not blue over here. No blue squares! Wait …are you including the white outline? Which isn’t square at all … awh man … I need better monkey toes… my screen just changed colors again.

  84. ellabee Says:

I dont know whats more bizarre…this thread, or the fact that I just read all 82 comments about a square.

Okay, so the question really is, if the square fell in the forest…

  85. jemf Says:

People, people “blue” is much too vague, the square should be known by it’s hexadecimal color code “ulysses butterfly #1464F4″….or is it more “cichlid #003EFF”?

  86. Miramar Says:

Oh my, what a mess you are all making of this.
So many words, just getting lost in discussing the unimportant.

Can`t you just see…. It is BEAUTIFUL!

  87. bornfromtheheart Says:

Shhhh!!! It’s a talking square. Poor square will just have to wait it’s turn. No wonder its blue turning white around the edges, it’s been left out in the cold, because no one is listening.

  88. aurora1266 Says:

Blue! This is a political statement! I thought we’re not supposed to go down that road in this forum!

  89. soxfan Says:

We should learn all we can about blue square culture so that we can share this knowledge with our own little blue squares as they grow up. I’m hoping to send to send DBS (dear blue square) to class next year so she can learn bluesquarian…it is such a beautiful and complex language!

  90. amycate Says:

The only thing that matters here is whether or not the CCAA thinks it’s a blue square or not. We can speculate all day, but in the end, it’s the CCAA who makes the final determination.

  92. gonnagetkayli Says:

perhaps the “blue square” is really two rectangles on top of one another…….

  93. pchelnyk Says:

In my opinion, while the square may be blue, it is HOW it got to be blue that everyone needs to think about, I know on very good second hand and anecdotal evidence that many many people are selling their blue paint instead of keeping it within their own family. Do we really want to have squares that have been painted with BOUGHT paint !!?? If there wasn’t such a high fee for us to get one of these squares then maybe all those people would keep their blue paint and enjoy it and there wouldnt be so many expensive blue squares available! If you try and debate this point i will be sure to come back at it in a different thread in two days.
