Happy Father’s Day!!!!

We’ve made a weekend of our Father’s Day celebrations, and I hope everyone else out there is having a wonderful weekend, and a wonderful day, as well.

For those still waiting to be a father, may you also find a way to enjoy the day. To quote Hannah Montana:

Life’s what you make it, so let’s make it right….

With a new attitude everything can change
Make it how you want it to be
Stayin’ mad, why do that?
Give yourself a break
Laugh about it and you’ll see

Life’s what you make it
So let’s make it right
Life’s what you make it
So come on come on (everybody now)

Why be sad, broken hearted?
There’s so much to do
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Life is hard or
It’s a party
The choice is up to you…

Hmmm, philosophy, from Hannah Montana. Who’d a thunk?

Anyway, may everyone have a wonderful day.

Yesterday we swam, and then last night we had movie night with the girls all cuddled around us, munching on popcorn. (GlitterGirl’s swimming is as good now as it was at the end of last summer. Previously, it felt like we spent a month every summer working her back up to where she’d been at the end of the summer before. It was nice to see her just jump in and start swimming this year. TwinkleToes can go underwater, and can propel herself around when holding onto something that keeps her from sinking. She’s got a ways yet until she’s swimming without help, but I’m hopeful we’ll manage it before the end of the year. GlitterGirl started swimming without assistance the summer she was four, and I’m hoping TwinkleToes does the same.)

Today I am thankful that my dad is still around, and that I get to spend the day with him. We took RK out to eat at his choice of places yesterday, today my dad gets his choice.

My dad is going to grumble about “new fangled bamboo, what’s wrong with cotton?” when I give him his shirts, but once he wears them and sees how cool they make him (not cool as in The Fonz, but cool as in.. you know, not so hot and sweaty) he’s going to love them. And, the travel coffee mug I got him with about a half a dozen pictures of his granddaughters on it is, I’m sure, going to be a huge hit. My dad takes his coffee pretty much everywhere, so it will get a lot of use. He’s going to love being able to show his granddaughters off without having to pull out his wallet.

Happy Father’s Day!!!!

Sounds like a really happy family weekend RQ.
I was interested in your swimming discussion. Swim safety is very big here in Australia so most kids do swimming lessons year in, year out, from preschool age until they are about 8 or 9 when they finally graduate. Also all early primary kids do a couple of weeks, or a term, of swimming lessons each year with their school which catches the kids whose parents can’t manage the regular lessons What happens America?

I gave my husband a father’s day card today even though he’s technically not a father yet. We’ve passed the 3-year mark on the adoption this month. I’ll continue to pray for our child and the adoption process.

Congratulations to all the new parents this week!

RQ..it sounds like you had a great day…thanks for all you do!

Meimeiandme – I don’t know of any public school systems that include swimming in the curriculum… and probably very few private schools. I know of some private high schools that have “swim teams”, but the kids already know how to swim, they are just coached to swim faster, I think.

Here, parents are responsible for teaching their kids, and there are adults who were never taught.

We paid for one session of lessons for GG, like six or eight weeks with a once a week class, but once I saw the process, we realized we could teach her without help. TT hasn’t had classes, we’ve just been teaching her ourselves.
