Out of Commission

I’ve gotten some sort of bug that has kicked my derriere. And to make matters worse, RK is out of town and I’m having to take care of the girls by myself. GG is going to get something really nice when I’m better, she did way more taking care of TT today than I did. I’ve managed to feed everyone meals, but GG has handled the between meal snacking and keeping everyone’s water bottles filled, including mine. Breakfast was cereal (Blueberry Morning), lunch was PB&J and fruit cocktail out of a can, and the pizza guy should be here soon and that will be dinner.

My head is splitting, my body aches all over, my vision is blurry, I’m doing the fever and chills thing, my digestive system is incredibly unhappy about the situation, and my lungs hurt. Oh, and my voice is just about gone. When RK called GG had to talk to him while I wrote notes for what she needed to tell him.

If I’m worse tomorrow than I am today then I’ll be dropping them off at their daytime caregivers and then taking myself to the doctor. Which means you may not hear from me tomorrow morning. If there are rumors, post them in the comments here (minus agency names, and don’t post a direct quote) and email or PM me the agency names and direct quotes so I can make sense of it and report it. I will check in at some point, I’m just not sure when that is going to be.

Luckily, both girls seem to be fine. We have a case of clementines and they’ve been eating them almost nonstop, I hope that’s enough to help them fight whatever this is so they don’t catch it.

I just hope it is not what I think, I had about the same symptoms. After seeing the doctor and blood work, I had a confirmed case of H1N1. Hope you feel better soon. When I was confirmed with H1N1 my husband was also away for the week on business, so I will be thinking of you and yes our eldest daughters can do wonder to help us. The good thing, was when my husband came back, he was doing well so he could take of us three girls, all sick. Since he was away when the fevers were high, he did not get the virus. Take care.

One of my class paras had very similar symptoms and it turned out she had Lyme Disease. Definitely get it checked out because if it is Lyme Disease, the sooner it’s treated the better.

If your lungs hurt, could you possibly have pneumonia? I hope you feel better soon. You always do a lot for all of us; take care of yourself right now.

  4. klem Says:

Take care–sounds like you’ve got a nasty bug.

  5. oneblessedfamily Says:

please please please get yourself checked for Lyme disease!!!! If you don’t get treated, things will get worse!!!!

RQ, It sounds a little like pneumonia. I had it at the end of May. Except my lungs didn’t hurt. I had a headache, fever, chills, and a terrible cough. It took me a week before I got diagnosed. I went to the emergency room, finally. It happened to be memorial day weekend. The Dr’s couldn’t hear it in my lungs but they did an x ray and discovered it. It took me about a month to get over it. I can’t imagine having little ones to take care of all by yourself. I was so weak an tired. You must feel even worse!

I hope the Dr’s can give you something quick! I was so happy to get my antibiotics.

Lots of armchair docs here willing to chime in (no disrespect meant to those who have already done so – I have my own diagnosis in mind as well . . .), but it sounds like you should probably get yourself to a real doc soon, just to make sure it’s not anything that should be treated with something more than rest and the help of GG! Keep well, and hope that the girls and RK don’t get it.

I had these symptoms 3 weeks ago and I am still recovering. My lungs still have a little wheeze to them. I had a fever between 101 and 102 and saw the doctor within 24 hours of symptom onset. They tested me for all types of flu and sent me home with TamiFlu (only effective 48 hours from symptom onset if it turns out to be influenza) and antibiotics to cover whatever it was. Turns out I “only” had pneumonia for which I was grateful. No one else in the family got it and I think it is because I was able to sequester for 3 days while my husband and Aunt covered childcare. Please take care of yourself…there are some nasty things floating around and most folks wait too long to see a doctor. Everyone needs a flu shot this Fall. The clinicians seemed pretty concerned about it being “THE flu.” Get well soon, RQ. By the time you read your comments, I hope you are recovered.

Sorry to hear your so sick RQ. We had a similar bug at my daughter’s school (in Sydney, Australia) that went through all her class in particular, many parents, and all teaching staff. Her teacher had pneumonia. I had Mei Mei checked for Influenza A/ swine flu but she had neither. Unfortunately the test didn’t tell what is was. But raging fevers that are very hard to bring down, and horrible cough, some vomitting were all the common symptoms. Antibiotics seemed to help my daughter.

RQ, this sounds awful. You can’t stay like this. Please, just go to the doctor.

  13. RCaffee Says:

We are thinking of you, RQ. Get well soon!!

Sounds like a doctor visit might be in order. I hope you feel better soon. It’s great that GG was able to be such a help!

RQ, you have been a daily tremendous encouragement to all of us that log on regularly, so now it is our turn to wish you a speedy recovery and good health in short order. It is easy for all of us to prescribe a treatment because we feel akin to you after all these years!! :) :) Blessings on you!!

    Hot Toddy Recipe:

    1 tbsp honey
    3/4 glass tea
    2 shots brandy
    1 slice lemon

Brew tea and fill a tall glass 3/4 full. Mix in honey. Mix in brandy shots. Add lemon slice and enjoy.

Or you can do it the Big Daddy way: Scrap the honey, tea and lemon. Take the whole bottle of brandy under the covers with you and watch movies until the bottle is gone.

Feel better, getting sick in the summer time is a major downer.

RQ, I’m so sorry to hear that you are feeling like this.

I hope you are better soon.

We are so lucky that you care this much about this community. If I was feeling as bad as you, I don’t think I’d be logging on to make sure everyone here knew what to expect You are amazing. And we all really appreciate it.

BTW, your children are so amazing also – they’re doing so well while Mommy is sick.

    Hoping for a speedy recovery.
