Happy Black Friday (and no new rumors)
I don’t see anything new this morning.
Someone posted something in the comments about the new director saying he is going to phase out NSN and concentrate on SN. I’d be interested in hearing the source for that, because it sounds like someone has distorted something an agency reported earlier in the week – they are brand new to the SN program and they talk about how the CCAA and the new director are helping them focus on the SN program. They do not say the NSN program is going to be closed, but I figured when I saw their report that someone would look at their words and twist them to say that.
I have something else to talk about really quick – and that is that if you want to know if your agency has your TA yet, you should call them and ask them. Emailing me and asking me multiple times a day is not going to get you an answer of when your TA will arrive. I can’t call your agency and ask on your behalf – they aren’t going to tell someone else your information. And I certainly can’t call the CCAA and ask. I don’t understand why you are getting so upset with me because I won’t tell you when your TA is going to arrive. You really need to talk to your agency about that. I’ve mentioned multiple times before that TA timing is dependent on many things: how long you and your agency take to return your LOA, how long the SWI takes to confirm the child (or children if it is a travel group) is still available for adoption, whether there is someone in the office to sign TA’s, etc.
As for my shopping this morning, I’ve been all over the place and I have found some wonderful bargains… The Children’s Place has great sales (and if you use coupon code HHH9 you get another 15% off of the already marked down items), TigerDirect has some insane bargains, and of course Amazon has a ton of great deals going, including a 7-Inch Handheld LCD TV
for $87.92 that I got for my dad. The small LCD TV’s have come down a whole lot since I last checked on them – his old portable TV is now useless since it can’t pick up a digital signal. I got my mom some great earrings
at Amazon, too. They are running “Gold Box
” deals every hour and most of them are selling out before the hour is up. (I’m not affiliated with Children’s Place.)

Can anyone take 2 seconds to explain to this Canadian what “Black Friday” is? It sounds ominous, but there’s shopping associated with it from what I can see, so it can’t be that bad!

This is so ridiculous! Why would they keep reviewing ,keep accepting NSN referrals if they were going to do this ,what ? are they just going to wake up one day and say SURPRISE everyone, thanks for your intrest but you are SOL!! they obviously know what they are going to do so !@#& or get off the pot ! Yes we are lucky and honored and appreciate the fact we are chosen to adopt from China but we may all be NUTS by the time we get our children… If they want to speed up the SN adoptions then speed it up ! There are lots of SN beautiful children there and I don’t see that picking up at the speed of light. If they want more prople to jump ship and get on board the SS SN ship then just say ..it will be another two years before we get to May 2006 LID.I can guarentee they wouldn’t have any problem ..or just speed up the SN wait time! UGH!!!! There ,I don’t usually vent but I did ,now I feel better .Thankyou !

“Black Friday” is the big holiday shopping day the day after Thanksgiving. So called because traditionally it was the day retailers hoped to move from the “red” into the “black” for the year!

The day after Thanksgiving is the first major shopping day of the year. It’s when most retailer’s become profitable for the year. 11 months in the red. Nice huh? The weekend before Christmas (Eve) is similarly heavy. Day after Christmas huge. Gift card redemption happens in January. Say you don’t know what to give your aunt, you give her a gift card and she spends it after new years which is when the stores can put the transaction on their books.
Usually at midnight or some really early morning hour stores will open and have doorbuster sales that last a few hours that in reality you better be the 49th person in line if you want to get that $400 tv that’s normally $900.
Last year a store worker died protecting a pregnant woman from being trampled.
Since Thanksgiving is over people are thinking on Christmas, are off the day after and shop that day. Some would never step in a store that day. Some love the energy of the crowds.
When people return to work on Monday they shop online if they don’t have a computer at home, or are tired of real person shopping after Friday. It’s called cyberMonday. Online had sales today too.
Gift exchanges aren’t just Santa and kids. Extended’s give to each other. Big families do grab bags. Some really evolved get together and donate to an organization instead. We have 3 sibling or (sibling groups), 3 grandparents or (grandparent groups), 2 great grandma’s, 3 neices, the teacher gifts, one aunt’s family to give a gift basket to, the mailman, each other, and to DS. The angel trees are up and people are shopping for children who wouldn’t have a Christmas too as they are due in a couple weeks.
If MIL does marry her fiance will we have to exchange with the new step siblings/cousins?

In our neck of the woods, there has been a real speed up for SN! (3 to months max, between inquiring and leaving for China). Our agencies have their own file of babies, their own lists and families can find a child within these lists. These babies or toddlers have already all the paperwork done in China, that saves so much time. I do not at all think China has stopped. Our agency is very transparent, I have always been given the utmost respect and our agency director has been given us the ugly truth with a Lid: 10/26/2006 like other couples in our agency, some have gone the SN route and started paperwork in July and are now in China! So the SN is getting to be faster but never has our agency has been given any reason to believe that China or CCAA will or want to stop honoring their word with waiting parents for NSN children. Of course, we are in for a looooong wait, and that for many reasons.

Just a note than when I published this post on Friday I was not affiliated with Tiger Direct, but as of today (Monday) I am affiliated with them. I had noted in the post that I wasn’t, so in the interest of full disclosure I’ve changed the post and I’m making this comment.
