Consulate – that was fast

Wow – looks like the consulate has opened up more slots. You can read their notice here.

They also listed upcoming holidays, which I’m going to copy here, just to make sure we’ve got a record of them when the page there changes to another URL.

  • U.S. Labor Day: Sept. 6 (Consulate Closed)
  • Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival: Sept 22 (Consulate Closed)
  • Chinese National Day: Oct. 1-5 (Consulate Closed)
  • U.S. Columbus Day: Oct. 11 (Consulate Closed)
  • U.S. Veteran’s Day: Nov. 11 (Consulate Closed)
  • Canton Trade Show: October 15-Nov. 4
  • Asian Games: Nov. 12-27
  • U.S. Thanksgiving: Nov. 25 (Consulate Closed)
  • Christmas: Dec. 25 (Friday, Dec. 24, Consulate Closed)
  • New Year’s Day: Jan. 1 (Friday, Dec. 31, Consulate Closed)

Thanks to everyone who contacted their congressional representatives. It sounds like they’ve opened up more slots for the month of September. Once we reach the point where people are trying to make appointments in October we may have to make the request again.

I knew there were going to be major travel issues in Oct and Nov but seeing that the consulate is closed almost 6 weeks is frightning for those of us hoping to travel this fall.
Seems like if you don’t get there b/f the trade show closures your really out of luck.

    Referral as of 8/16!

I dont see that it reads they are closed for that long. It does not state they they are closed during trade show and asian games. So thats good news.

  3. sjv Says:

True, I hope that is the case, I just read the “closed” all the way down and freaked a little. Thanks!

Is the consulate normally closed on weekends too?

  5. RumorQueen Says:

christelann – I think they’ve got someone on duty in case an American in China needs some sort of help, but they don’t do Visa appointments on the weekend.

sjv – some agencies allow their families to go during the trade fair, others don’t. It is a good bit more expensive to go during that time, but it is not impossible.

Sorry RQ. This is nothing to do with the posts. Just to ask you if there is a way to remove adds like “Asian girls for marriage”/”Pretty and virtuous Chinese girls for marriage”. They are really humiliatin for women in general, and Oriental women in particular. Maybe it is nothing you can do about this, but if you could…
As always, thank you for everything,
    Mayte

Olaya – if you’ll send me the URL to the page that the ads land on then I can put that page into the filter, so it will filter those ads out. It takes up to 24 hours to begin filtering them once I put them into the filter.

Honestly, they did a great job processing our group when we were there recently.
