I800 question
« on: February 09, 2010, 01:39:05 AM »

Hi Guys,
A couple of questions as I want to have my LOA paperwork ready because I'm a freak when anyone gets their, I can't imagine what I'll be like when it's me. WooHoo

When asked what country, do you put China or PRC?  I've been putting PRC
On the sample given to me by our agency they have us check PART 3 #20 Intend to adopt child in COnvention Country
but we will do a readopt in CA, but are not reqired to by law.  Which is why I guess they have us check that one.
BUT
PART 3 #24 I don't know what to put because ot also refers to post placement stuff and if I put NA, it sounds like I don't have my Home study stuff in order.???????
OH and how did you get the visa picture for your child?  Did you just find the best head shot and make it into passport photo size 2/2??

Thanks-AC

We put "China" and ours was approved with no problems.

You will be completing the adoption in China, which is why Part 3 #20 is checked.

Part 3, #24 reads "If the child will be adopted in the United States...." so, it doesn't apply to you since you will be adopting your child in China, NOT the US (readoption doesn't count...you are completing your adoption at the Civil Affairs office in China).  So, you will check the box that reads "Not applicable (Child will be adopted outside the United States)"

We were not required to provide a Visa photo of our child.  Where are you getting that from?

Doesn't one of the form require to send a visa photo of your child?  W864 or something?
Do you think I should go back and change my PRC to China on a new form?

I think you will get a photo of your child when you are in China for their Chinese passport in province...

When you are in China, one of the things you will do before your Consulate appointment, in Guangzhou, will be to have your child's visa photo taken.  There are shops in Guangzhou, near the Embassy, that will do them with the right measurements.  Our guide took us to a good place and actually held each child so that the photographer could get the correct view.

In regards to the pic... your agency will need to do this for you (unless they tell you what to do). It must be included with the DS230. It used to be that you applied for your child's visa in China, but now we have to do it before we travel.

Thank, my agency did in fact tell me how to do it, just had a few problems getting it to look right.  Still wondering about it.  I figure if the DS230 gets to my agency and they don't think it's right, they will change it.  Thanks for not making my think I'm crazy, clearly reading the email from my agency that says to include the passport size photo.

"China" or "People's Republic of China"...I don't think it matters.  We put "China" and ours was approved no problem, and I don't see why using the full and correct name for the country (which is People's Republic of China) would cause any problems.

Our agency had the SWI take the visa picture because the Consulate in GZ answered via email that it had to be current and a real photo not a copy of a photo (?!).  SO the SWI took the photo, sent it to the courier in GZ, and they put it with the packet to submit with DS230 last February.

Then in GZ we had to have another visa picture taken, and *that one* was the one on the USA Visa as well as on the Citizenship Certificate.  I'm mostly over the bitterness of the one week delay getting the non-used visa picture from the SWI. Happy

But I've looked around this morning, and some agencies say use your referral photo so apparently that is now working.

Gotta love all the inconsistencies.

This has to be another "do what your agency says" since they've been doing this for a year now.
