Learning to Trade
GlitterGirl and TwinkleToes adore each other. I still get all misty eyed watching them play together.
I even occasionally get a bit misty eyed when I have to put on the referee hat and intercede in some sort of disagreement. Twinkletoes does not back down to anyone, if she wants to do something she will insist upon doing it. So what that her sister weighs more than twice what she weighs, if she wants that toy and her sister tries to take it, she hangs onto it and screams at her sister. She may not have words yet, but that doesn’t stop her from screaming.
GlitterGirl pretty quickly learned the “here, I’ll trade you” trick. Oh NO, she has my doll that I don’t want her to play with! Here sissy, let’s play with Elmo. And then when Twinkletoes starts playing with Elmo, GlitterGirl gets the doll back.
But TwinkleToes is pretty smart and she picked up on that pretty quickly, too. We were at my parents and GlitterGirl was in my mom’s lap. So TwinkleToes goes to my dad and gets in his lap and gets her sister’s attention and pats my dad’s other leg. GlitterGirl comes over and gets on his other leg, thinking her sister wants her over there with her. TwinkleToes then scoots down and runs to my mom and gets up in her lap. She didn’t want GlitterGirl over there with her, she just wanted my mom’s lap all to herself. And she used what she learned from her sister to make that happen.
Yes, we have our hands full with those two. And we love every minute of it.
