Hair

TwinkleToes wants me to put stuff in her hair, too. GlitterGirl has a very large collection of various hair doo dads and I’ve bought the beginnings of a collection of some smaller stuff for TwinkleToes, but her hair is still so fine it just doesn’t stay in all day. I’ve tried a little of everything, and the stuff that worked for GG’s hair doesn’t work for TT’s hair.

I have a bunch of really cheap barrettes that I purchased with the “one time use” mentality. Knowing when I put them in her hair I’ll likely never see them again. The environmentalist in me argued with the mommy in me for a while on that one. The mommy won. In part because we’re about two months away from either having to put something in every day or cutting it into bangs, and I’m hoping to avoid the “letting the bangs grow out” phase with an older child this time.

I can prolong the time that they stay in by wrapping a rubber band around (and around and around) the back part of the barrette. That mashes the hair tighter into the barrette and keeps it in a couple of hours instead of a couple of minutes.

But TwinkleToes is so darn proud of herself when I put a barrette in. She looks in the mirror and prisses back and forth to get all views of it. It’s cute at two, but I don’t think it’s going to be quite so cute at 15. Hopefully by then we can have some talks that will put some things into perspective for her. But for now she wants stuff in her hair and I’m obliging her.

I bet TT looks so cute with the barrettes and hair things! You have me laughing over a conversation I had with my friend recently. My daughter is TT’s age and also has fine hair. I get the cheap barrettes that don’t stay in for long. I was telling my friend about all the lost barrettes that collect in my yard. I’m like — there is no way these things decompose out here naturally!!! :) I’m going to try the rubber band trick. Good idea!
Does TT also like shoes?? My daughter loves shoes. Honestly I’m not some kind of a crazy shoe nut, so I’m not sure where she gets this from. It’s funny to see her try on my shoes though.

It has been an ongoing joke with friends that our little one will probably hate all the girly things…..only time will tell…glad you are enjoying your girly girls.

This is going to sound weird, but if you take bows with the little “alligator” type clips, then run a thin bead of hot glue from a glue gun on the inside of the bow side of the clip, then hold it open until the glue dries…. it creates a little rubber-like seal that holds it in the hair without slipping. My daughter could still remove them from her hair when she wanted to (they didn’t stick in there), but they would not budge if she left them alone, and her hair is really, really fine.
