Parent Movie Review: Care Bears Oopsy Does It!
TwinkleToes loved this movie. Pointed and ooh’ed and ah’ed and bounced up and down.
There is a villain (of course) and he is a bit scarier than I’d have liked. Both TwinkleToes and GlitterGirl were scared of him when he first made an appearance. After a while you discover he’s kind of like the Wizard of Oz (not as scary as he appears, just a regular guy trying to appear scary) and things get better and they weren’t so scared of him anymore. His name is Grizzle, in the end he’s a bear the same size as the Care Bears, but he doesn’t have a belly badge.
The movie was really too young for GlitterGirl but she enjoyed it anyway.
I watched TwinkleToes watching the movie more than I watched the movie, but I still know what happened.
There is no deep message, though there are a number of smaller messages like being nice to others and being supportive of your friends.
It’s a cute movie with good graphics, and while Grizzle is scary at first it’s not the kind of scary that will make kids scared after the movie is over. Grizzle is shown to be a wimp without his technology to help him out, so he’s not really all that scary in the end.
Grizzle is bad and he loses in the end because he Does Not Care.
The Care Bears are good, and they win in the end because They Care.
Another good point: there were no scary previews before this one.
This movie is fine for the 18+ month crowd, I think. If you have a child who has sensory issues involving loud noises you may want to time it so you go into the theater after the previews. There were no scary previews but there were some loud parts.
